On November 10 we went to the Southeast Botanical Gardens with Doug's brother Gary. He had come to Okinawa for a 177 km bike race held on the upper part of the island. We then enjoyed a leisurely drive down the eastern side of the island through very rural, thickly forested, hilly terrain. Occasionally the road would descend next to the Pacific and we would be reminded that we are indeed on an island.
