4/22: 1 year down! Since finishing chemo, I’ve been getting blood tests every 6 weeks to make sure I’m still in remission. Each time I get a little nervous for a few days leading up to the appointment, slightly worried about finding scary markers in my blood. But at the end of my visit today (still no cancer, whew), my oncologist said I could schedule my next followup in 3 months, since I’ll hit the 1-year mark in May. Woo hoo! Today is day 132 since I began treatment for leukemia. I was admitted to UCSF yesterday afternoon for my final cycle of chemo, and should be out on Sunday! After that I’ll have a few weeks of twice weekly clinic visits, then once weekly visits diminishing to annual checkups until June 2020. Here are some interesting (or not) approximate numbers from my initial admission to the hospital through this Sunday and the next three weeks of outpatient checkups:. Days in the hospital. In talking over the possibility of planning a summer vacation, my doctor corrected my misunderstanding that I’m going to have four total rounds of chemo. I’m actually going to have four rounds of consolidation therapy (post-remission chemo), so including my initial induction chemo, that’s five total rounds.
