Kilimanjaro or not

Monday, 1 November 2010. Day 2 - Machame Huts - New Shira Camp (3850 m/12630 ft). Waking at 5.30, our next days trek was due to commence around 6.30. Sleeping had not been easy, mainly I think due to the close proximity of the other tents around us:. We were alreadt above the clouds, yet our target ahead still seemed far away. Although we had not covered much distance the increase in height did leave some people starting to feel the effects of altitude, headaches, sickness, slight dizziness. The forest i...

Kilimanjaro or not: October 2010

http://iankillitrip.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html

Friday, 29 October 2010. Day 1 - Machame Gate (1830 m/6000 ft) - Machame Huts (3030 m/9940 ft). We start our challenge with a relatively short day of trekking, around 6 hours starting from the Machame gate. After a few photoshoots on the gate itself, we waited while our porters and guides arrived, weighted our kit, and we were signed into the park. After taking on some water and picking up a pack lunch we were off. It was about two and a half hours to a lunch stop in a clearing near a stream. Here we...

Kilimanjaro or not: June 2010

http://iankillitrip.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 29 June 2010. So much for training this weekend. All day Saturday to take apart, then all day Sunday to clear away the concrete blocks, now in many pieces, and start to dig the area for the new building. So 2 full days, a huge amount of exertion , and I guess I have a similar level of work to get ready for the new one. So sorry to say no walking. Friday, 25 June 2010. Only did another 5 minutes after that, just to hit the 2.5 mile limit. I can't believe that a lack of sleep can cause tha...This ...

Kilimanjaro or not: July 2010

http://iankillitrip.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html

Friday, 30 July 2010. So my weekend, and Monday were spent in the region of Chester, at the McDonald hotel, Portal, Tarporley. This was a relaxing long weekend, however with walking in and out of Tarporley twice on Saturday we covered over 6 miles. Sunday morning I hit the gym, which was very well equipped and I did the usual session of running and cross training. Later on I spent a good afternoon in Chester sight seeing, down by the river. Tuesday I was back at my own gym. Friday, 23 July 2010. However ...

Kilimanjaro or not: Review of the Trip to summit Kilimanjaro

http://iankillitrip.blogspot.com/2010/10/review-of-trip-to-summit-kilimanjaro.html

Thursday, 28 October 2010. Review of the Trip to summit Kilimanjaro. Mt Kilimanjaro is one of Africa's most magnificent sights, and at 5,895m it is her highest peak. Rising sheer from the savannah plains, this snowcapped mountain is an almost perfectly formed volcano that is not yet extinct. On the 15th October I departed from the BIE Office in Manchester heading for a train that would take me to London, I met up with 3 friends from my local village, and then boarded an overnight flight to Nairobi. To Sp...

Kilimanjaro or not: March 2010

http://iankillitrip.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 31 March 2010. Less than 200 days to go. Not that I am counting, but there are now just less than 200 days to go before the challenge. This seems a long way off, and indeed October sounds a long way off as well, but I am sure the time will pass quickly. Tuesday, 30 March 2010. Anyway my sisters visit at the weekend, with her many years of knowledge working for Specsavers suggested I tried monthly disposables that can be kept in day and night. I obviously have got left behind with contact l...

Learn, Grow, Inspire

Learn, Grow, Inspire. Monday, May 17, 2010. The weekend before last, I went on a trip to Napa wine country with one of my Biodesign teammates, John, and his visiting friend, Ken. Napa Valley is an area north of San Fran, considered as one of the top wine-producing regions in the US. We then reached the Hess Collection vineyard ( http:/ www.hesscollection.com/. Which was a lot more like what we had come to see. We saw the neatly arranged grape vines on the sloping meadows next to the factory. Inside the w...
