I don’t remember what color her hair was that day; it’s tough to say. Jordan changes it regularly. Could have been Alpine Green she’s worn that color, and many more. Rosy Red. Spring Green. Lagoon Blue. Plum Purple. Flamingo Pink. Wine Purple. Fire Orange. Just to name a few. A few minutes later, she was introduced as our new youth minister.

X-rays and stitches, klutzes and saints. Everyone who knows me is aware that I’m a klutz. Certified. Got the stories to prove it. Have you heard the one about how I dumped a bag of ice water on my crotch before a news conference? July 25, 1997. I had dislocated and chipped a bone in my left pinkie while playing softball — klutz move, there. I had an appointment to get the finger pinned back together. Well, I thought I’d grabbed it. I forgot about that numbness thing. Try dumping ice water down there!

I stood at the bread shelf in the neighborhood grocery store, trying to decide which loaf I should buy. Tough decision. I looked at all the types of bread and went back-and-forth many times. Which one would be best for communion? I didn’t know. I’d never had to make this choice. Our pastor was at a conference for the weekend. I was presiding over the Sunday service for the first time. Before he left, we went over the details of all that had to be prepared. Kroger’s will do just fine. Being Jewish and all.
