Qualitative Research Fluency Blog. Sunday, March 11, 2007. Project Progress (week 10). During the spring break, I did the first data collection of my project. Although there is just one participant so far, I already got some valuable experiences. The first usbility testing took us two hours. It is logner than I expected. One reason is that the participant #1 is not only an experienced web user, but also has experiences of creating website and online database system. He is more sensitive to de...From "thi...

Qualitative Research Fluency Blog. Saturday, February 24, 2007. Reading Response (Week 9). This week's G and C chapter 8 talks about interviewing. It is relevant to me because my project involves interviews. During reading this chapter, I wrote down any ideas coming up in my mind on my "qualitative research notebook.". Tuesday, February 20, 2007. Reading Response (Week 8). This chapter talks about suggestions for writing the research paper. After reading it, I was encouraged somehow. The most val...The c...

Qualitative Research Fluency Blog. Tuesday, January 16, 2007. Reading Response (Week 3). The readings for this week contain many dimensions for evaluating qualitative research. What interests me the most is the issue of the generalizability (external validity) of qualitative research. I found that there is one point these four articles all mentioned and all make efforts on emphasizing its importance, that is, the importance of clear and detailed description. Qualitative Research Fluency Blog. Tuesday, January 30, 2007. Reading Response (Week 5). The focus of this week is "fieldwork." Very practical. G and C's chapter 5 details prepared works for fieldwork. One of the "key factors for selecting the focus or topic" in P.68, which is "Is the proposed site neutral? Reminds me of the similar consideration for usability testing:. G and C mentioned (p.68) that most text on qualitative research exhort novice to use neutral sites for data collection, sites in whi...

Qualitative Research Fluency Blog. Sunday, February 4, 2007. This weekend, I tried to search for any free or trial version screen recorder for the use in my project. And I downloaded three softwares and compared their advantages and disadvatages. 15 days trial version. The recorded mouse movement seems not very smooth. The audio recording only lasts about 30 seconds (maybe because it is a trial version). ZD screen recorder 2.5.0. Auto Screen Recorder 2.1 pro. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Kate’s Qualitative Research Fluency Blog 2007. This blog is part of the Qualitative Research Doctoral Seminar offered at the University of Pittsburgh in 2007 (LIS 3600). February 27, 2007. The use of visual images in qualitative data was interesting to read about, though not applicable in my particular research project. It was interesting that Silverman highlighted semiotics in this chapter in such depth explaining the relational meanings between colors or other visual apparitions. My question is how do ...

Kate’s Qualitative Research Fluency Blog 2007. This blog is part of the Qualitative Research Doctoral Seminar offered at the University of Pittsburgh in 2007 (LIS 3600). Although not behind on the readings I am oddly behind on the blogging due to my multi-site work activities. I will be posting my thoughts for the previous weeks from my notes to catch up on this. For our sample project in tomorrow’s class I have chosen a group of interviews posted publicly on the Rare Book School (RBS) web site. Though c...

Kate’s Qualitative Research Fluency Blog 2007. This blog is part of the Qualitative Research Doctoral Seminar offered at the University of Pittsburgh in 2007 (LIS 3600). I found the Gorman and Clayton readings helpful in conceptualizing the immense detail and discipline one must find in order to perform fieldwork. The lists and examples were great, and I found the note taking directions particularly useful even though this will be modified for my uses. I continue to examine my own thinking about whether ...
