Things that inspire me, places I've seen, people I've met, things that I've done, music that I've heard. August 23, 2010 by maria. But my biggest obsession of all is paper. I love smelling it, looking at it, feeling its texture between my fingers and I just love using it. Sometimes one obsession is like an open door to the next one and when I did some research before my letterpress class I learned about the types of paper out there for this purpose. And that path took me to Porridge Papers.

Melizabeth’s Guide to Non Life. Monthly Archives: July 2010. July 25, 2010 · 5:52 pm. I’m an anti-capitalist, or at least have been steering in that direction for a number of years. Not communist, exactly, but more a fan of sustainability and balance, something that the America market would decidedly choke on as they scarf down their Big Mac ‘sandwiches’ and their Big Oil companies. Having recently embarked on reading the Omnivore’s dilemma by Michael Pollan. I was struck by something. As I am currently ...

The Dirty Life: On Farming, Food, and Love →. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. June 3, 2011. To Jonathan Safran Foer. I have never experienced the type of loss you describe so well in your novels. Have you? That’s quite a personal question, yes, but it’s something I wonder about. What reader doesn’t wonder what biographical details have crept into the author’s writing? What it is. Your words make me feel just that: that is. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. What is that feeling called? Is a story ...

Saturday, July 05, 2008. The Rockets- Did You Know They Glare? When I grew up, the Fourth of July meant slurping homemade peach ice cream and hanging out at the neighbors' pool until one of them got too drunk and threatened to throw my mom into the deep end, which was our signal to pack it up and head home. (When I think back, I seem to also remember a bowl of keys? I wonder . . . ). This Fourth of July was a departure from what Carrie and Ricky. http://smabmouth.blogspot.com/2008/08/to-finn-on-his-first-day-of.html
Monday, August 18, 2008. To Finn, on his first day of kindergarten. About two hours ago, I abandoned you in your kindergarten classroom. I walked you to your room and eased you into the classroom filled to fire hazard with five-year-olds, their parents, and more cameras- video, digital, cell phone- than an AARP tour group on a whale watching cruise. Then I blew you a kiss, swallowed yours, and booked it out the door so you wouldn't see my inevitable and long-postponed (and planned) breakdown. But kinderg...
