Recent Training and the NMTC Wednesday Night Races. I have also run in two of the recent Wednesday night races as part of my normal training plan. At a cost of only $1, they are a great way to do a speed workout on some of the trails in our area with other people from the running community. Run with Feeling: Arizona and the Coldwater Rumble
http://runwithfeeling.blogspot.com/2012/01/arizona-and-coldwater-rumble.html
Thursday, January 26, 2012. Arizona and the Coldwater Rumble. Around 60 runners lined up at the starting line for the 50k. We started the race in partial darkness and cool temperatures in the 40s. I had high hopes of finishing well in this race, so when the gun went off, I started out quickly and joined the lead pack of about 6 runners, one of whom was Hypo. If the course wasn't extremely rocky, then we were usually running in old river beds which were sandy washes. They were like running on a beach ...

Run Sam Run: January 2011
http://minnesotarunner.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail? Monday, January 17, 2011. From NR: Short stories. Lots of random things to say so let's make one post of them all! I've had some fabulous long runs on trails so far this winter! Who says snow needs to be the end of trail running for the year? I've recently discovered this wonderful thing called the 3 mile lunch break run! I'm downtown so I can hit the lakewalk or run down Superior Street. The only problem? Especially since I could hit the hikin...

Run Sam Run: October 2010
http://minnesotarunner.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail? Saturday, October 30, 2010. I decided ahead of time to do a mile to get back into it and not let myself cut it short. I tried to let my brain wander more the way it can running. The only problem is that it's super hard to both let your brain wander and. Not from Northland Runner. Thursday, October 21, 2010. From NR: My First Ultra! Everything they said it would be all in one little race! My first response when people ask about it? See, the 6 ho...

Run Sam Run: Voyageur 50 mile: Part Two!
http://minnesotarunner.blogspot.com/2011/11/voyageur-50-mile-part-two.html
What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail? Thursday, November 3, 2011. Voyageur 50 mile: Part Two! The sky is falling! The sky is falling! I'm finally finished with part two! So without further ado . . . The way back was definitely much better than the way out. Loads better. I looked at my watch 5 or so minutes out of the zoo and saw there was still tons of time before the cut off (well, maybe 30 minutes or so? But I was able to put it out of my mind :). He regaled me with all sorts of ...

Run with Feeling: October 2011
http://runwithfeeling.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Tuesday, October 11, 2011. This is an amazing video. Try holding your breath as long as Sulbin does. Sunday, October 9, 2011. Park 2 Park 2 Park (2 Park 2 Park) and the mindset of mud. Okay, now to Hartley. I actually didn't get lost! It was a classic day of trails in Duluth! Despite the rain we had Saturday night and Sunday morning, the trails were very dry, save for a few spots in Hartley along the COGGS trails. I want to declare, publicly, that I LOVE MUD! When I co-directed the world famous Pilot Kno...

Run with Feeling: November 2011
http://runwithfeeling.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
Tuesday, November 29, 2011. Yesterday, I received a pair of these. Another unique aspect of Altra shoes is the wide, very wide toe box. The folks at Altra believe that the toes should be able to splay naturally upon impact and that a healthy foot should be widest at the toes. Probably not, but I think many people would like them and they'll make for a great second pair of trail shoes for me and if there's another 100 miler in my near future, I'm sure I'll use these for most if not all of it. Today I went...
