An Expat's Yarn: November 2009
http://anexpatsyarn.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html
Life, Work, Love and Yarn. Wednesday, 18 November 2009. Christmas at the New Year. I was recently asked by Brian at Istanbulblogger. An Englishman in Istanbul, I'm very excited to say - how I would be celebrating Christmas. You know, it's been so long since I've spent Christmas in London that I don't even remember when to celebrate it! The reason being, there are no Christmas holidays over here, understandably. So, when you have children in school you can't just take them away for two weeks. I recently c...

An Expat's Yarn: October 2009
http://anexpatsyarn.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html
Life, Work, Love and Yarn. Thursday, 22 October 2009. Why do expats become creative? I don't know if it's a coincidence, but it seems all of the expats I come across are involved in creative businesses, entrepreneurship or writing. A lot of expats have already written about this, so I won't expand into psychology too much. But, it's something which really fascinates me. An Expat's Yarn: September 2009
http://anexpatsyarn.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html
Life, Work, Love and Yarn. Monday, 28 September 2009. Perhaps, everyone has an opportunity to enhance their better qualities when they are themselves in unfamiliar surroundings. Of course, it could always be sheer desperation. Actually, this is a nice thing. Nice for him that he suddenly has these people who speak the same language to rally round for him, and nice for us that we have one more shiny new friend. In what other situation would you ever see this happen with no ulterior expectations? Half Engl...

An Expat's Yarn: December 2009
http://anexpatsyarn.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html
Life, Work, Love and Yarn. Tuesday, 8 December 2009. Suicidal driving in Turkey. As for drivers here in Turkey, driving is a case of bad, worse and downright suicidal. Last weekend I counted every 7 out of 10 drivers and passengers. Wearing seatbelts despite it being mandatory. The number of women who obstinately sit in the front seat with their baby or child on their lap is so ridiculously high it's obscene. In any case, children are always sitting in the front, no matter their age. After splitting my s...

Julie Made This: November 2014
http://juliemadethis.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
My random ramblings and some things that I have made. Saturday, 22 November 2014. A knit for my baby. Of course, as is the case with most new mothers, reality turned out to be a little different to my imaginings. I ended up with a baby who was happiest in my arms and I was happy to oblige, which meant my ability to knit or crochet was severely curtailed. In fact, while I have crocheted intermittently since M’s arrival I had not picked up knitting needles since her birth until earlier this year! The yarn ...

Julie Made This: Richard's hat
http://juliemadethis.blogspot.com/2014/12/richards-hat.html
My random ramblings and some things that I have made. Tuesday, 30 December 2014. This was a Christmas present for our friend Richard. Richard likes hats. Indeed I read Hamilton's Hats. I have made hats for Richard in the past, including a Victorian gentleman's sleeping cap. With time being short, I decided I had to work from my stash with hook or needles I already owned. I didn't have time to trawl through my many pattern books or Ravelry. Trying to match up my available yarns with potential hats, so I d...
