Living it up in Anchorage, Alaska. Graduate student in public health (who recently became a candidate for Master). Curious about food systems, northern landscapes, wanderlust, and most importantly, yarn and what adventure we will take together next. 8220;When everything else has left my brain what will be left? 8221; asks Annie Dillard in her book. Perhaps a story, a pattern, or even a woven landscape. And, if I’m bold enough, I’ll share it in this space with you. Follow Blog via Email.

To the socks… | Knittinginatree's Blog

https://knittinginatree.wordpress.com/2012/07/12/to-the-socks

To the socks…. Thank you all for your kind comments on my previous post. It’s good to be back here and to have your support. I’m hopeful for the future and look forward to continuing to share some of it on here with you. Today is the birthday of Pablo Neruda. I’ve been taking some time to revisit his odes today. Inevitably I stumbled upon. Ode to My Socks. Here’s to hope and to socks translated by Robert Bly. Ode to My Socks. Mara Mori brought me. A pair of socks. Which she knitted herself. I resisted th...

what are your colors of winter? | Knittinginatree's Blog

What are your colors of winter? In preparation for solstice, for winter celebrations, for the impending start of a new year, and for a new place to call home, I thought I would take some time this upcoming year to focus on working with the colors I find in the seasons and landscapes I’ve been lucky to explore. FO Hell, second floor. Pay It Forward Take Two. Pattern: The Destroyed Cowl. Yarn: Banana Silk by Frabjous Fibers. The destroyed cowl was made for a one of a kind roomie from my first year in college. Perhaps you had a roomie like mine. She would answer our phone by saying, hell, second floor, and do a number of things to make my terribly shy constitution extremely embarrassed–like flashing her under garments at me across the dining hallin front of all my friends. Ha! Click to email (Opens in new window).

knits of life: PIRATE PARTY

http://ben-christi.blogspot.com/2011/03/pirate-party.html

Tuesday, March 15, 2011. I started imagining this party some time in January. It was sort of a celebration of finally having a house that I could have people over in, using Joachim as my inspiration. That's my acknowledgment that his Birthday party was for me as much as for Joachim. We used the pallets from when the fencing was delivered and some of the sections of fence left by the previous owners. It was one of the things we did together that actually worked out really well because he got to do a l...

Fiber Jewels: Hi

http://fiberjewels.blogspot.com/2015/06/hi.html

Crafting, Hiking, Exploring, Teaching and Living in Alaska. Handspun Yarn Resources Page. Friday, June 5, 2015. It has been such a long time. So much has happened. As I packed my personal items, the adults "side talked" (having conversations with each other that we want the kids to hear) about my classroom being used over the summer, and how I had to take everything down and bring home all my personal items. The kids seemed to believe us and helped with the packing. I was going to work at the equine assi...

Fiber Jewels: March 2014

http://fiberjewels.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html

Crafting, Hiking, Exploring, Teaching and Living in Alaska. Handspun Yarn Resources Page. Thursday, March 20, 2014. Last summer, as you all may remember, I attempted to get in shape. I found out I had uterine fibroids, had a hysterectomy, climbed back on the Weight Watchers wagon, and continued trying to drop weight and get in shape. Weight STILL didn't come off. My coworkers were joking about this yesterday when one of them told me that didn't sound right and to get my thyroid checked. After spending th...

Fiber Jewels: Wish me Luck

http://fiberjewels.blogspot.com/2015/06/wish-me-luck.html

Crafting, Hiking, Exploring, Teaching and Living in Alaska. Handspun Yarn Resources Page. Thursday, June 11, 2015. To learn the ropes of non-profit grant writing, I set a goal to write grants pro-bono, for 5 different clients. Four of the "clients" I have lined up are people who know me, and were all too happy to allow me to use them to educate myself on the ins and outs of non-profit grant writing compared to writing tiny little grants for classrooms. You have been successful in everything that you do!

At about Day 8, I am thinking I'm about half way done, and it will be larger than the first Rondelay. It is hard to look at or photograph all squished up on the needles. I am liking to progress. Fiber Jewels: March 2015

http://fiberjewels.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

Crafting, Hiking, Exploring, Teaching and Living in Alaska. Handspun Yarn Resources Page. Wednesday, March 18, 2015. We have had a very dry (brown) winter with very little snow this year. Thursday, March 5th, was our last day with students before our "Spring Break". I took our students on a walking field trip to find a geocache. It was warm, sunny, and I had to work on keeping them out of mud puddles! Saturday, March 7th was the Ceremonial start of the Iditarod Sled Dog Race. Friday, March 13, 2015.

Fiber Jewels: WOW!

Crafting, Hiking, Exploring, Teaching and Living in Alaska. Handspun Yarn Resources Page. Friday, June 12, 2015. I posted about a meeting I had with a possible new client for my future as a freelance grant writer. I have been totally honest with them about my skills, or lack of, in writing grants for non-profits. I shared the journey that basically brought me to them. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Fiber Jewels: Moving Forward

http://fiberjewels.blogspot.com/2015/06/moving-forward.html

Crafting, Hiking, Exploring, Teaching and Living in Alaska. Handspun Yarn Resources Page. Wednesday, June 24, 2015. Life right now is pretty good. Yesterday I introduced two older boys on the Autism Spectrum to horses. If that weren't exciting enough, I even got paid for it! I am sure, once I have a set schedule, I'll do okay. I have found I FEEL like I get more done when I shower and get ready for "work" right away, instead of doing the same amount of work in my PJ's. I have been knitting. Interwebs fou...

Friday, January 20, 2012. The house project is complete (mostly, who's ever finished? Below, is a picture of the house before we closed on it and finally there is a picture of the house with the siding finished, yes, we just barely finished before it snowed and technically we still need to close in the garage, but that should be a breeze compared to how far we've come. This is from the end of the summer after we put in a lawn. a pretty big deal for the kids. Sunday, January 15, 2012. With What You Have 61.
