Scott's Long Island Garden: Tart berries on a dry day
http://longislandgarden.blogspot.com/2013/06/tart-berries-on-dry-day.html
Scott's Long Island Garden. Professional Attorney - Amateur Gardener. Tart berries on a dry day. I have three berries growing: blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries. I also have a grape vine, which is kindof a. berry, but no grapes yet. So, everyday I go get a handful or two of berries. Stephanie and I usually share them, or I'll grab one or two here and there right off the plants. Note, one raspberry pic is from a week ago, the other flowering pics are from about a month ago.

Scott's Long Island Garden. Professional Attorney - Amateur Gardener. Hauppauge Farms Nursury Review. I strongly recommend the Hauppauge Farms nursery / farm stand at 448 Wheeler Road, Hauppauge, NY 11788 (just North of Exit 56 on the LIE, on Route 111). This is the smallest of my favorite nursuries, (which, at least at the moment, are this one, Van Bergundian in Deer Park, Hicks in Westbury, and Cheap Sam's in Holtsville), but it has a unique charm and is always well worth a stop to see what they have.

Scott's Long Island Garden: Sunflowers, Summer 2015

Scott's Long Island Garden. Professional Attorney - Amateur Gardener. Sunflowers, Summer 2015. JULY 12, 2015. My first sunflower has bloomed in a large pot, from Burpee Mammoth seeds I planted in late May. I'm estimating the plant is about 6' from it's base, with another 4' added from the pot. I also planted the American Giant variety, which is supposed to grow up to 15' tall. JULY 29, 2015 UPDATE. AUGUST 5, 2015 UPDATE. Location: St James St James. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Scott's Long Island Garden. Professional Attorney - Amateur Gardener. Morning Glory, Moonflower, and Pole Beans. A few days ago I started morning glories, moon flowers, and pole beans in a seed starter. I have a few chain link fences, and I think they'll work out nicely. Probably not the living wall I picture (blue at sunrise, white at sunset), but hopefully it'll work out. So, within approximately 48 hours, all three of these seeds have burst into seedlings. Scott's Long Island Garden. Professional Attorney - Amateur Gardener. Three Sisters: Squash (Zucchini); Corn; and Beans. I've read that squash, corn, and beans can be planted together. It's supposed to be from the Iroquois, an upstate New York tribe, who called them the three sisters. Squash grows low and wide, controlling weeds and moisture; the corn grows straight and tall, not bothered by the squash; and the beans grow up the corn, a natural pole, and fix nitrogen in the soil. 8/19/2012 update - so, t...

Scott's Long Island Garden: 2014 Tomatoes, Arugula, Zucchini, Basil and Corn
http://longislandgarden.blogspot.com/2014/04/2014-three-tomatoes-arugula-zucchini.html
Scott's Long Island Garden. Professional Attorney - Amateur Gardener. 2014 Tomatoes, Arugula, Zucchini, Basil and Corn. This year, I've re-planted several heirlooms with seeds from prior years. I've been regrowing yellow cherry tomatoes since the aerogarden first came out. Chamomile self-seeds, and I'm now on my third generation using a Dunecraft terrarium. Peppers hybridized easily, so the ones I have growing now will be some mix of habanero and everything else I had near them last year.

Scott's Long Island Garden: Sunflowers and tomatoes
http://longislandgarden.blogspot.com/2013/07/sunflowers-and-tomatoes.html
Scott's Long Island Garden. Professional Attorney - Amateur Gardener. Over the last week or so, my first sunflowers have started to bloom, and my yellow cherry tomatoes have ripened. The marigolds are huge. The romaine lettuce is past ready and starting to bolt. The full size tomatoes are starting to come in, and the early-planted peppers are ready to pick. With the exception of the greens, nearly all of my plants this year have been from heirloom seeds I've collected in prior years.
