Observations on gear, adventure, and the world. SkiMo quivers and insulation. We’ve got a good window of stability in the Wasatch right now, which happens to coincide with some serious “nest soiling” by the refineries in the Salt Lake Valley – so if you want to breathe hard its time to skin! I’m also thinking about skis and a little rocker up front like the Dynafit Manaslu. Brian Harder of Get Stronger Go Longer has the following gear notes from his Christmas excursion to the tetons. I’m a fan of G...

A Breath of Thin Air. Monday, August 26, 2013. Moose's Tooth via the West Ridge - Alaska. Mooses Tooth's West Ridge. Janelle and I were very excited to get back into the classic climbing circuit for the fourth year in a row. After an amazing winter overseas. We had spent 90 days in Europe, where Janelle competed in several countries with the best ski mountaineering racers in the world, while I made videos of the experience. The videos can be scene here (episodes 1. Walking up the Ruth Glacier.forever!

Where my head is pointing. | ampersandoutdoor
https://ampersandoutdoor.wordpress.com/2013/05/22/where-my-head-is-pointing
Observations on gear, adventure, and the world. Where my head is pointing. Now math and climbing have my full attention. I’ll be posting at tenlitre.com about the math side of things, but I’ve got a bit to say over here about climbing and other adventures. THIS has my attention, and trad is the only way it could ever be. Now on to the pun in the title. Headpointing. A version of redpointing. Of your protection.”. I think this is a great way to find safe, adventurous climbing. This entry was posted on May...

Written by Patrick Fink. Mt Baker Easton Glacier Ski Descent. Author’s note: This post is one week old. I’m now sleep deprived and sporting the dorky combination of scrubs and a white coat. Looking back on this gives me a satisfied smile. Enjoy! I’m on a ferry, out on puget sound, sailing from Friday Harbor to Anacortes. Despite my best efforts (hours of quietly watching at the rail), I’ve yet to see an Orca. That’s the only hope I had for this trip that I have yet to fulfill. Sunset over Mt Baker. This ...

Observations on gear, adventure, and the world. I’ve not been able to keep up with the really amazing stuff that’s been coming through my RSS feeds lately. So I’m gonna dump it here and now. First, David Lama is going to blow up alpine climbing. Big time. Here’s a taste of things to come. Freeing the compressor route was just the beginning. Kelly Cordes, rumored to climb ice, approves of David Lama (he said so on Facebook so it must be true) and Maurice Sendak. Boots don’t fit? A Cold Thistle guest post.

Observations on gear, adventure, and the world. Always psyched to see Adam Ondra climbing hard:. This winter is the winter of working hard at the climbing gym. I may never get another winter where I can climb this much. The goal is to balance a well rounded workout with getting a lot of climbing done and really focusing on developing good patterns of movement. Also I make sure that I spend some time on the steep problems building strength and power. It was filed under Climbing. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

Observations on gear, adventure, and the world. Backcountry Kit and Training. In spite of everyone’s complaining about the snowpack – the season is ON, and in the wasatch I’d say it’s worth a trip out, if you know your way around a p-tex candle. I’m not new to snowsports but I’m new to backcountry skiing and skiing… sort of. But this blog is about gear. So on to that. Temps in the low teens to mid twenties in the sun. Here’s what I brought:. Osprey FlapJack 25l (871g / 1lb 14oz). 8211; simple to use, ple...
