The Arctic’s Secret Garden | Arctic Ecosystems
https://lifeintheice.wordpress.com/2013/10/10/the-arctics-secret-garden
The Arctic’s Secret Garden. October 10, 2013. The small town of Barrow, Alaska is perched on a point of land 320 miles above the Arctic Circle, where stark, flat tundra stretches in one direction and a vast expanse of Arctic Ocean extends to the horizon in the other. Aumack and Juhl are finding that the thickness of sea ice and the associated snow cover, as well as the timing of sea ice melt in spring and freeze in autumn, may all affect the productivity of the ice algae community, which in turn, affects...

May 14, 2013. Flying Over the North Slope. The trip to Barrow is a long one from New York City, but is not without spectacular and rewarding scenery. These photos were taken on the flight from Fairbanks to Barrow, over the Brooks Range, which tops out at more than 9,000 feet. Seeing Alaska from the air helped me understand why there are no roads to Barrow. Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window). Share on Facebook (Opens in new window). Life in the Hoodie | The world from inside the sweatshirt…
Life in the Hoodie. July 18, 2014 · 3:03 pm. A blessed and terrible month for the world’s Muslims. The days are long and the nights are full of newscasts. Simply put, this has not been our month. I am not the most active Muslim — I like going to the mosque for. Bad things that have happened to Muslims (and, really, to humanity) this Ramadan:. A stateless and persecuted Muslim minority, have been banned from marrying. Certain types of clothing, and unapproved Islamic literature. The dead almost seem to ru...

Life in the house of A. Wall
Thursday, April 11, 2013. Now, I will not waste valuable time in pleasantries on how beautiful the snow covered spring ground looks outside. no, I will just get to the good stuff! So here it goes :). I was just looking through my blog and saw that I had done 219 blog posts in the year of 2012! The year of 2012 was a well documented one for sure! From around New Years until July, I was writing a post almost every single day. I surprised myself with sticking to something for so long. There was a season cha...

life in the idle lane
Monday, August 07, 2006. Hey to anyone who still checks this :). I'm going on a two-week vacation to Tokyo and Hong Kong on Wednesday, so I set up a travel blog to post pictures and anecdotes and whatnot. I'll have my laptop with me so I plan on updating often, if only to get the pictures uploaded in case we lose the cameras. or the laptop. I've disabled comments just so curious family members don't somehow wander back to this blog. y'know! Posted by Claudia @ 11:49 PM. Saturday, July 15, 2006. Ned Bigby...
life in the igloo
Life in the igloo. Simmer down and sit a spell. The afternoon weather was divine today so we played in the yard and celebrated. I picked up Poppis new-to-her beachy summer romper at the consignment store this morning for $2, and her pink chucks too. I was a bit worn out after two days going it alone with three, but I managed just fine and we had a lot of fun. Good to have their daddy home tonight, though. . May 30, 2014 10:47:28 PM. Life in the inaka | i-na-ka 田舎 – countryside; rural area; the boonies
Life in the inaka. I-na-ka 田舎 – countryside; rural area; the boonies. February 12, 2013. Making mochi…in the inaka. It is an understatement to say that rice is an important part of Japanese life. Every day I drive past squares upon squares of rice fields on my way to school or to visit friends. Well, just about. I was inv...
