Google sometimes asks me questions, via my phone, about places I've been to so that it can improve its information about businesses when people search for them. linguistlaura: Ribenary

http://linguistlaura.blogspot.com/2015/08/ribenary.html

Monday, 3 August 2015. I saw this advert last week:. It's an advert for Ribena. It's got some wordplay around the suffixes -y. Which makes nouns into adjectives) and -est. Superlative) and the combination of both of these. So in the slogan at the top, we have tastiest. Both of which are common enough words, but also blackcurrantiest. That's the kind of word that people might ask 'is that a real word? Isn't normally an adjective, but of course we can make it easily (I just did) by sticking the -y. Doesn't...

Sunday, 21 June 2015. Gove's random writing style rules. Michael Gove has been the subject of this blog in the past. These days, he's no longer Education bod and is now Lord Chancellor, if you can believe that. Because this job apparently doesn't involve much actual work, he's got a lot of time on his hands and is spending it complaining about the way people write. And making lists of things his people should do or not do when they respond to letters. Use active voice and present tense. This is a well-wo...

Wednesday, 26 August 2015. Esperanto 2: Warning, contains meat. Esperanto has certain suffixes for various grammatical purposes, and others that add some extra meaning. One of the latter is - a ĵ. Which you add to the name of an animal in order to get the word for its meat. Some examples:. Chicken (the bird) - koko, chicken (meat) - koka. Cow/bull - bovo, beef - bova. One of the sentences I had to translate was koka. Or a different word entirely ( beef. In other words, beef. Is a hyponym of meat. But som...

linguistlaura: Esperanto 1: Duolingo

http://linguistlaura.blogspot.com/2015/08/esperanto-1-duolingo.html

Thursday, 6 August 2015. I've been learning Esperanto. I'm doing this not because I have too much free time, but because I'm a big language nerd but don't feel like I have time to practice languages as much as you need to to get good, so Esperanto allows for quick progress and no need to actually speak it. I'm also interested in it because I'm interested in invented languages generally: given that they can have any rules their inventors choose, why do they have the rules they have? 6 August 2015 at 16:24.

Canterburyn tarinoita: toukokuuta 2013

Torstai 9. toukokuuta 2013. Viimeisen öö. viiden kuukauden radiohiljaisuuden päätekijä on nyt pois päiväjärjestyksestä. Dissertaatio on valmis. Paitsi että syksyllä mitä todennäköisimmin aloitan maisteriopinnot. but until then, FREEDOM! True friendship isn't being inseparable, it's being separated and nothing changes. 30 day song challenge.

Canterburyn tarinoita: Halutaan uusi vähemmän rasittava harrastus

http://kampukselta.blogspot.com/2012/12/halutaan-uusi-vahemman-rasittava.html

Keskiviikko 5. joulukuuta 2012.

Canterburyn tarinoita: helmikuuta 2012

http://kampukselta.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html

Maanantai 27. helmikuuta 2012. Vihdoinkin meidän ponityttöjenkin menestyksestä kirjoitetaan yliopiston lehdessä :). Lauantai 25. helmikuuta 2012.

http://kampukselta.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html

Olen hengaillut puistoissa. Tämä on Dane John Gardens. Ja talot siinä Dane John Gardensin kupeessa on. no, LUSH. Paikallinen Rotary-yhdistys järjesti Duck Racen. Maali sijaitsi Westgate Gardensissa. Kyllä täälläkin paistoi aurinko pilvettömältä. Taivaalta n. yhden päivän. Työmatkan varrelta. Ja töissä on kyllä tullut. School ...

Canterburyn tarinoita: elokuuta 2011

http://kampukselta.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html

Sunnuntai 28. elokuuta 2011. Onks pakko tehdä töitä jos ei huvita? Liian monta (työ)päivää ennen lukukauden alkua. Ja vapaapäivien jälkeen töihinmeno kiinnostaa entistä vähemmän. Perjantaina nukuttiin pitkään, katsottiin Spongebobia, käveltiin kaatosateessa kauppaan, ja käveltiin kaatosateessa takaisin (lähikadulle oli ehtinyt muodostua joki joka virtasi siihen ihan oikeaan Stour-jokeen). Tehtiin törkeän hyvää ruokaa (molemmille parsaa, salaattia, tsatsikia, Chrisille pihvi ja paistettuja perunoita, ...

micro giraffe: Tiny hats for smoothie bottles

A jewellery and card design magazine. Wednesday, October 29, 2014. Tiny hats for smoothie bottles. A friend invited me round the other night to make little hats for bottles of Innocent smoothies. They raise money for Age UK, so we made as many hats as we could in a couple of hours. Here are my crocheted efforts:. And all of them together:. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). micro giraffe: Granny hexagon

http://micro-giraffe.blogspot.com/2014/08/granny-hexagon.html

A jewellery and card design magazine. Sunday, August 17, 2014. I wanted to make a different-shaped cushion, and I discovered/worked out that you can make hexagons in the same way you make squares. I found this pattern. But I didn't use it in the end as I wanted to see if you can do it in literally the same way as the squares, just changing the number of corners rather than doing different stitches. And it turns out you can, though it doesn't look quite as nice as the fiddlier ones at that link:.

A jewellery and card design magazine. Monday, August 18, 2014. You essentially make every other row much bigger by making the loops round something (I used a ruler) and then grouping them together to make the pattern. Canterburyn tarinoita: marraskuuta 2012

http://kampukselta.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html

Tiistai 20. marraskuuta 2012. My teacher says I need cupcakes. Cupcakes to learn. Lisäksi alan aina mammaroimaan jotain epäolennaista: nytkin luin blogia, jossa on darrapöllöjen kuvia. Chris...

A Blogedy

Where comedy and blogging collide. Dear Stranger, Do I Know You? November 9th, 2011. I got stared at a lot today. It was weird. One guy from an office across the hall even came over to introduce himself. We've been working across the hall from each other for like, a year. What was particularly strange was his lingering touch on my hand. I dunno what in the hell was going on there. Was there something on my face? A sign on my back? You look just like my [insert female relation here]! I like funny stuff.
