9 things for 2014 | Living on the Veg

https://livingontheveg.wordpress.com/2014/01/22/9-things-for-2014

Living on the Veg. 9 things for 2014. 22 January, 2014. It’s our 9th year on the plot! And starting the year a little late…here are 9 things I want to do / make / change this year:. Build new wooden compost bins. Put in a row of raspberry canes. Put in stronger posts and windbreak fencing. Fix the guttering on the shed and get a new 2nd water butt. Prune the plum tree. Spend much, much more time at the allotment. Find even more timely recipes for our fresh fruit and veg. 6 February, 2014 at 9:41 pm.

Bank holiday Monday: Burgers & crumble | Living on the Veg

https://livingontheveg.wordpress.com/2015/05/25/bank-holiday-monday-burgers-crumble

Living on the Veg. Bank holiday Monday: Burgers and crumble. 25 May, 2015. We got up to the allotment for about five hours this afternoon and left it feeling like it was finally looking not. Okay, stuff that should have mostly been done in March, but at least we have some greenery in some of the beds now. The burger mix, pitta breads, bulgur wheat salad and tikka marinated vegetable skewers were left over from yesterday’s dinner. Carrot and Chickpea burgers:. 750g carrots, peeled and grated. 150ml pot na...

Kitchen | Living on the Veg

https://livingontheveg.wordpress.com/in-tkitchen

Living on the Veg. Last year house was extended, including a reasonable sized kitchen-diner. This has revolutionised family evenings. It’s so much easier managing cooking evening meals for the children while they can sit in the same room. The same goes for talking to the cook. It’s so much more pleasant to be able to chat while preparing meals. When we planned our new kitchen, we decided a dual fuel range cooker would match our needs, and we have not been disappointed with it. 18 April, 2009 at 3:15 am.

Inspirational planting plans | Living on the Veg

https://livingontheveg.wordpress.com/2014/02/15/inspirational-planting-plans

Living on the Veg. 15 February, 2014. Some 3 1/2 years ago, I took the boys to visit the Centre for Alternative Technology. In the northern reaches of Mid Wales. I had wanted to go for a while, and I have wanted to return ever since – what a fantastic day out. A chance to see the working of a retired old MS-2 turbine. Educational displays on composting, including the worm slide that leads to the bowels of the worm’s earth. Co-planting flowers and vegetables as companions will be the main theme in our all...

Winter home-grown dinners | Living on the Veg

https://livingontheveg.wordpress.com/2014/02/12/winter-home-grown-dinners

Living on the Veg. 12 February, 2014. With home-grown dishes far less frequent over the winter months, dinner on Monday night was a real treat. During a break in the rain I managed to spend about half an hour at the allotment. I dug a few leeks and snipped a selection of leaves: Bright Lights chard, Cavolo Nero and (what we think is) Red Ursa Kale. Stir fry with home-grown leaves and smoked tofu. In a wok, heat 1cm covering of vegetable oil. Smash 1 garlic clove and add to the oil. Yes, not only deliciou...

The value of sharing stories | StoryTEL

https://xarahc.wordpress.com/2010/10/15/the-value-of-sharing-stories

Sharing stories about Technology Enhanced Learning. The value of sharing stories. 15 October, 2010. The budget cuts are soon to be confirmed. But a leaked report today suggests 4.2 bn will be cut from Higher Education. Of which teaching will be hit by 79%. I am feeling genuinely shocked by this. With fees set to rise to 10,000 a year, what kind of message is this sending to the next generation of school leavers? The BBC have presented a collection of stories from citizens up and down the UK. Great to see...

Ada Lovelace Day 2010 | StoryTEL

https://xarahc.wordpress.com/2010/03/24/ada-lovelace-day-2010

Sharing stories about Technology Enhanced Learning. Ada Lovelace Day 2010. 24 March, 2010. These days I’m surrounded by teachers, lecturers and academics and plenty of female peers and role models. Our new Vice Chancellor is Susan Price, and both of my Directors of Study have been women. I’m a little less naive these days and have become more familiar with feminist literature and I find it very comforting. I wonder what kind of a feminist Ada Lovelace would have been…. Aspects of the Third Level: Environmental Sanctuaries. Can manifest itself literally as a place. Such a location, or sanctuary, serves to focus and clear the mind, freeing it of the detritus of second level thought. These sacred and near-sacred spaces can be found anywhere, and take many forms, though the trinity always serves a potent role. Such locations prime the visitor for stunning realizations. Can dimly be heard from the Third Level if one listens hard enough. Great song. Really, I mean it. Certai...
