Feelings | Lorrie Spinney

https://lorriespinney.com/2015/10/08/81

One Thing I know … still working on the rest. What Jesus thinks →. October 8, 2015. It’s 3:00 on Thursday and time for a blog post. My desk looks out glass doors to our back yard which is just now lit green by grey skies and rain. Yellow leaves lay soggy on the grass, also brighter than life. I’m trying to learn how to feel what I feel. Instead of running ahead of fear, I let it come. I breathe it in, hold it, and release: I am scared. Breathe. I am sad. Breathe. And then, radical thought: Thank You.

This Isaac? | Lorrie Spinney

https://lorriespinney.com/2014/11/14/this-isaac

One Thing I know … still working on the rest. Christmas in ordinary life →. November 14, 2014. Thousands of years ago a man was told to kill his son. And this matters to you and me. The man was Abraham and it was God our God, the same one who told him to kill his son. That’s why it matters. The son was Isaac, and most of us know the story. We know that Isaac was a miracle child. God had promised him to Abraham and Sarah and then waited over twenty years twenty years! 8211; to deliver on the promise.

Unfixed Wounds | Lorrie Spinney

https://lorriespinney.com/2015/06/02/unfixed-wounds

One Thing I know … still working on the rest. The smallness of me. June 2, 2015. Some wounds heal completely. It takes a while, but eventually they are gone: no scars. Instead, we learn how to live with them. We cover scars with makeup or clothing, or we wear them dismissively. We learn to walk with a limp, or bent, or maybe we go on wheels. But we go. And sometimes God does wonderful healings, miraculous healings. And sometimes he doesn’t. Fear and guilt: two wounds that happened early and went deep.

One Thing I know … still working on the rest. The smallness of me →. Christmas in ordinary life. December 24, 2014. He started out as a baby. Without self-awareness –. The great I AM –. And needing to put the pieces together. As he grew; to figure out his purpose. And learn about his father. He needed to learn a skill and trade. Among his family brothers, dad. He began each day with no awareness. Of what that day would bring, or where. It would take him. He needed to learn how to surrender. Asks the Velv...

One Thing I know … still working on the rest. Asks The Velveteen Rabbit in the wonderful story by Margery Williams. And the Skin Horse answers, When a child loves you for a long, long time. Loves you, then you become Real. So I must be real now, because two children have. Loved me all their lives. When I walked back into the house after dropping off my youngest daughter at college, the emptiness rushed at me, into me, and howled there. I was only Real to them. November 17, 2015 at 11:37 am. Glimpses of Glory as seen through a dark glass. November 8, 2016. Instead of having two blogs with the same name, I’ve decided to diversify. For a while I thought I could get away with one blog, but being who I am, apparently I cannot. Here at Glimpses of Glory as seen … Continue reading →. July 22, 2016. May 11, 2016. March 28, 2016. Glimpses of Glory as seen through a dark glass. He is our Peace. March 4, 2015. Coptic Cross: the circle in the centre represents the eternal everlasting love of God. My heart has sickened these past months as I watch real life tragedy play out on screen: Coptic Christians beheaded. Nigerian girls kidnapped. French journalists gunned down. Children murdered in Pakistan and South Africa. It is a holy war, but it won’t be won by anyone wielding a sword, a gun or even a pen. Jesus, the embodiment of love, o...

Beauty for Ashes | Glimpses of Glory as seen through a dark glass

Glimpses of Glory as seen through a dark glass. Manna and the Bread of Life. He is our Peace →. January 27, 2015. In talking to people during the writing process of my book, I have discovered repeatedly that everyone has a story. True stories or books and movies based on real events are the most interesting in my opinion. Even in our brokenness, we can reach out to others. I don’t doubt it for one second, but they hung in. Faith in God is greater than anything this evil world can throw our way and overco...

Glimpses of Glory as seen through a dark glass. Who gets to decide? Beauty for Ashes →. Manna and the Bread of Life. November 8, 2014. By HM Snyder, illustrator for the 1897 Bible Pictures and What They Teach Us by Charles Foster [Public domain], via Wikimedia Commons. While they were in the desert, God fed the Israelites manna for 40 years. That’s forty years of one food, with a little quail on the side. No spices, no fruit. No bacon. This bread from heaven, that the people named what is it? Even though...

Lorrie Spinney | One Thing I know … still working on the rest

One Thing I know … still working on the rest. December 24, 2016. It’s Christmas Eve and I’m thinking about a horde of slaves scrambling to get away from Egypt, and camped at the base of a mountain in the desert of Sinai. I’m thinking about how they’ve just watched God supernaturally set them free from the world’s most powerful empire; and how he’s promised them a wonderful land of their own, a land so rich it grows abundant crops seemingly all by itself. Which is a very big deal. They arrived at Sinai tw...

Pass to the Left: Food to Share with Family and Friends. Thursday, February 22, 2018. These are one of my favourite cookies. I like them crisp and snappy, with a good ginger flavour.
