Lost On Time: Wot a Lot
http://lostontime.blogspot.com/2016/11/wot-lot.html
We all lose on time in the end. Friday, 25 November 2016. Another Man Ray chess set. Rather beautiful, just like another one here. The specimen shown above was owned, until recently, by. The late David Bowie - here playing with the Ice Queen Catherine Deneuve, on set perhaps at The Hunger. States that his "love of the game" is "well documented", giving but a single source. Which says that "other famous chess fans include Madonna.Bob Dylan and Bono". Fetched £15,000; and another, in aluminium. Comments po...
Lost On Time: No possible legitimate purpose
http://lostontime.blogspot.com/2016/11/no-possible-legitimate-purpose.html
We all lose on time in the end. Monday, 28 November 2016. No possible legitimate purpose. What with all the excitement in New York, little attention has so far been paid to a really quite important development in chess politics which, as it happens, took place on the day of the opening ceremony. This coincided with the Court for Arbitration in Sport issuing their judgement. In the case of FIDE v Ignatius Leong, who (along with Garry Kasparov) had been found guilty of breaching the FIDE Code of Ethics.

Lost On Time: A clever response
http://lostontime.blogspot.com/2016/12/a-clever-response.html
We all lose on time in the end. Friday, 9 December 2016. As we've seen this week, Ray plagiarised all his Times columns from Monday 24 October to Friday 28 October from the first volume of My Great Predecessors (Garry Kasparov, Everyman 2003). So if you assumed he did the same on Saturday 29 October, you assume correctly, though it's not as thoroughgoing a robbery as the others. Here's how he introduced it. Here's how that appears on page 223 of My Great Predecessors. Which made me laugh. Not that theres...
Lost On Time: This is an obscenity
http://lostontime.blogspot.com/2016/11/this-is-obscenity_16.html
We all lose on time in the end. Wednesday, 16 November 2016. This is an obscenity. 19 November 2016 at 20:07. Karpov readjusted his knight on move 6 after pushing the clock. :). Actually, they seem to have edited it out now, so maybe someone figured they shouldnt show this. At least hes not the next Giri, if he wont agree to a draw. 20 November 2016 at 19:33. The Streatham & Brixton Chess Blog: Champions
http://streathambrixtonchess.blogspot.com/2015/08/champions.html
The Streatham and Brixton Chess Blog. Updated every Monday, Wednesday and Friday . and maybe other days too. Monday, August 10, 2015. British Championships (11), August 2015. What makes a champion? Well, scoring more points than everybody else for a start, so well done to Jonathan Hawkins. This from a man who had just finished second only half a point behind the winner. "Mentally weak". Contrast that with the, "I played quite well and then just made a silly mistake". Rather than the more obvious 42 Ke2.

The Streatham and Brixton Chess Blog. Updated every Monday, Wednesday and Friday . and maybe other days too. Saturday, August 08, 2015. I'm glad Hawkins won it. Much sympathy, though, for Nick Pert, who was carrying the appalling burden of having to play his twin brother in the final round when needing a win that he never looked likely to get. It was, more than anything, Nick beating. Howell with the Black pieces which made this year's championship as exciting as it was. I don't propose to go into what h...

The Streatham and Brixton Chess Blog. Updated every Monday, Wednesday and Friday . and maybe other days too. Sunday, August 02, 2015. The Politiken Cup finishes today. Here's the Chess Facts with which they advertised. There are several things wrong here, but let's start at the very beginning. With the very first "fact". Which, as readers of this blog know. And as anybody producing publicity material for the Politiken Cup ought to know, isn't any kind of fact at all. To a remarkable passage. Or to put it...

The Streatham and Brixton Chess Blog. Updated every Monday, Wednesday and Friday . and maybe other days too. Thursday, August 06, 2015. There is no discrepancy". Hello everybody. Do you remember this posting. From back in April? It involved the ill-fated English Seniors' Championship of 2014 and a whole variety of problems that arose out of it, of which one in particular was causing me confusion. The ECF contributed £1000 towards the prize fund and this amount was paid out. Obviously I wasn't over-impres...

Shirov - Timman, Wijk aan Zee 1996. He resigned the game in a position which is not in fact lost. Or Muller and Lamprecht’s Secrets of Pawn Endings. The Streatham and Brixton Chess Blog. Updated every Monday, Wednesday and Friday . and maybe other days too. Sunday, August 09, 2015. What wasn't in New In Chess 2015/5. In the course of his long complaint about how unfair journalists are being to him, Nigel Short unaccountably fails to mention how scientists responded to the comments he made in NiC 2015#2. He might for instance have cited Dr Dean Burnett, of the Institute of Psychological Medicine and Clinical Neurosciences in Cardiff, who wrote:. Nigel...

Its time to get down to the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. After a few lean seasons at the Summer Exhibition ( 2012 was the last good one. This year we have a result: not a chess painting, but a beautifully elegant chess set on display among the architectural models, and a bit of ancient chess history. Photo courtesy of the artist].

Lost On The Way Home | Your guide to style, travel & food
Lost On The Way Home. Holiday Dressing for the Unenthusiastic. December 12, 2016. I do quite like the holidays, don’t get me wrong. However, I don’t think you need to dress overly festive. Partly because it’s a waste of money to buy something you only wear once, but also because I don’t think you need to wear metallics or sequins when the holidays come around. Subtle details can work wonders, my friends. This outfit is really not. Bag (Céline – similar. December 7, 2016. One of my recent favourites was.

Lost On Time
We all lose on time in the end. Friday, 6 January 2017. Chess in Art: Chess Board Cubism. Already almost a week in, but still time to wish you a Happy New Year - and kick it off with some more chess in art. Non-figurative artists have looked to the motivation behind the moves. The geometry in the play. The rolling thought beneath. Their first mov...
