NPC in the Media. The Niemann Pick C diagnosis - an often long and frustrating road. There are several different tests for diagnosing Niemann Pick C. Many of these tests are complicated and can be done only at specialized institutions, some of which are not available in Switzerland. The first indicator is a bone marrow biopsy, in which the foam cells typical of NPC can be seen. Type C can then be identified by means of a skin biopsy and confirmed with DNA testing.

NPC in the Media. The Niemann Pick C diagnosis - A time of waiting and worrying. The suspected diagnosis of Niemann-Pick C: incurable and fatal. The time of worry and hope. The difficult search for mutations. Mael was genetically tested for types B and C at a laboratory in Germany. For a long time no mutations were found, and then, a few weeks before Lian’s birth, came the seemingly good news that they had found a type B mutation in Mael! The final, terribly painful diagnosis - all hope was lost.

NPC in the Media. April 2013 - Life is a rollercoaster. In April, a report about us on a family blog Die Angelones. In the Chicago area and in August the NNPDF Family Conference. In Baltimore. When I think of these trips, I have a queasy feeling. I will be in a foreign country with a foreign language and be confronted during a few days mercilessly with this disease. I will miss my dear firmly men! The best day this month for Mael was on April 18th. He celebrated his fifth birthday.

NPC in the Media. Comprehensive and therapeutic treatment the only chance against Niemann Pick C. Maels treatments at the age of 5 years. And here too Mael knows exactly what he can and can’t do. He watches a lot, takes everything in, and decides what he can and wants to do. After a morning at the play group, in the woods or indoors, he is physically and mentally exhausted but also very, very happy! Information about Zavesca is available under Research.
