The Cerdagne and Capcir are beautiful high-altitude plateaux from where most of the skiing begins in the Eastern Pyrenees. From the Vauban fort of Mont Louis (1500 metres) the Cerdagne descends to the Spanish frontier and the border town of Puig Cerda (1200 metres) before rising again to the principality and tax-free haven of Andorra. Killing time in Cheltenham while Anita enjoyed the attentions of the dentist, Hedley wandered in to a second hand bookshop and picked up a book that described the spa town of Vernet-Les-Bains. Despite the distance involved, about 750 miles south of the channel ports, Mas Forge is easy to get to. There are airports nearby at Perpignan, Gerona or Beziers, offering reasonably priced flights with a number of carriers on different days and each with easily bookable car hire facilities. If you want to travel by rail then fast trains are available to Perpignan from where a frequent local train service still runs to Villefranche, a mere 3 miles up the valley from Mas Forge. Cady and Tech, the two semi-detatched gites within the grounds of Mas Forge, are named after local rivers. The restored properties have a feel of rustic comfort: white walls, dark beams, cool tiled floors, wood burners and comfortably furnished. Mas Forge Prices and Booking Arrangements

Prices shown are per week and include normal usage of heating and electricity. All bedding is provided, but not towels. 6 June - 4 July. 4 July - 5 Sept. 5 Sept - 26 Sept. Change over day is Wednesday. Arrival should be between 16.00 h and 20.00 h and the gite vacated by 10.00 h on the day of departure. A deposit of 100 is required to reserve each gite. The balance must be paid no later than one month before arrival, on receipt of which a detailed local map of the valley will be sent to you.
