Matt Grabau: Week 1 of 20, on my way to Rock 'n' Roll
http://rvrrdr.blogspot.com/2013/09/week-1-of-20-on-my-way-to-rock-n-roll.html
Adventures from the FOMOP. Monday, September 9, 2013. Week 1 of 20, on my way to Rock 'n' Roll. Summer of 2001, I was in the midst of my internship for the Fish and Wildlife Service in the middle of nowhere, North Carolina. I started running. I ran with bears, deer, rattlesnakes, and nutria (what exactly is that? I ran with the black flies, yellow flies, and mosquitoes in 100% humidity day after day. Why? With a bunch of extra mileage and a bike and swim or two per week for cross-training. I should b...

Matt Grabau: January 2012
http://rvrrdr.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html
Adventures from the FOMOP. Saturday, January 21, 2012. Get back on that horse and ride. Bike fitting can be a frustrating experience. Bike shops provide a range of initial fittings when you purchase a bike—some more skilled than others, and different shops rely on varying fitting equipment sophistication. Then, after you spend some time on your bike, you wonder if you need adjustments. At this point, I have had the range of fit experiences. And, I rode. After a solid time trial, I felt good! My overall e...

Matt Grabau: September 2013
http://rvrrdr.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Adventures from the FOMOP. Tuesday, September 17, 2013. Week 2 of 20. Now we're rolling. Week 2 is in the books. Work has continued to consume a lot of my energy (mental and physical), but the high mileage load has been a great sanity check. It helps that nothing is too intense yet; just have to tune out and run. Hoping to keep the mileage about the same this week, just adding in a bit more length to the tempo run. Just keep on running. milesonmilesonmiles. Monday, September 9, 2013. After years of think...

Matt Grabau: December 2010
http://rvrrdr.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
Adventures from the FOMOP. Monday, December 20, 2010. This must be it, welcome to the new year. Well maybe I'm jumping ahead just a little bit. BUT last week I got a text that whipped me into the training mood again. Can you model for us next week? Kind of a nightmare for a triathlete hitting the off-season HARD, like 10 pounds gained in three weeks. Oops! So, how do I get there? I came up with three challenges of my own to tackle these non-specific goals:. P100X Yes, I'm going to become one of those....

Matt Grabau: February 2011
http://rvrrdr.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html
Adventures from the FOMOP. Monday, February 28, 2011. Oh oh, what are you waiting for? These experiments also tend to lead to a lot of reflection/identity crises. Hey, if you never question what you're doing, how can you believe in it? I know that is a pathetic rip-off of a movie line, but it's not coming to mind. Anyway, here are the outcomes of my experiment:. Conclusion Number 2: Beards are heavy- REALLY HEAVY. In fact, it appears that mine weighs 10 pounds. I know the me that is only focused on triat...

Matt Grabau: August 2010
http://rvrrdr.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
Adventures from the FOMOP. Monday, August 30, 2010. Nobody said it was easy. A day late and a workout short, but Week 4 is done enough for me. There was a not-so-subtle change in my workload last week (when it rains, it pours.and it did both figuratively and literally). For the first time, I really FELT. That I was ironman training. Sure the workouts were a little longer, but that wasn't the hard part. Off to the pool to celebrate (like swimming is a fun way to celebrate.). EXHAUSTED, but I knock...Thurs...

Matt Grabau: July 2011
http://rvrrdr.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
Adventures from the FOMOP. Tuesday, July 19, 2011. Are you dead or are you sleeping? It's true, I'm still alive. Wow, it has been a busy three months! And not in the ways I would hope. We listed our house for sale thinking that it would take a while to sell. I mean, with the current economy and being in Tucson, it takes several months to sell, right? Came across in 4:52:33. Not a smoking-fast time by any means, but it was a big victory for me, actually. A course PR on very little training. Ju...One of th...

Matt Grabau: September 2010
http://rvrrdr.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
Adventures from the FOMOP. Thursday, September 16, 2010. Gotta get myself over me. Have you notice the explosion of blogs? There's a reason. Suddenly I have this Ironman thing on the brain. So, the workouts are starting to click. Swimming is getting easy (well, easy as far as swimming goes) and my recovery between intervals on the bike and run is really improving. I guess I'm getting back into racing shape! You do, at preschool and gymnastics, right? No more kids' track meets now that summer is over).

Matt Grabau: April 2013
http://rvrrdr.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
Adventures from the FOMOP. Thursday, April 4, 2013. It's too late to walk away. As I sit at home drinking a beer and eating pizza (Thursday is my cheating day, give me a break! I thought I'd finally post an update on my pseudo-athletic endeavors. All of these added up to poor, stressful, and inconsistent training which meant no improvement. A lack of motivation followed close behind. The company has expanded, and I FINALLY have support staff working for me. My stress level has gone down significantly...

Matt Grabau: March 2011
http://rvrrdr.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Adventures from the FOMOP. Tuesday, March 22, 2011. As the turnout from a bunch of other universities is great also: ASU, CSU, New Mexico, NAU, US Military Academy (Army), Air Force, the list goes on. CU Boulder, the defending national champ, was there in great form and look to be in good shape to take the title again this year. Basically, I was going into the race on two weeks of training. Anyway, quick race report. Hey, at least the new team kit looks awesome! Now, back in Tucson, and still in training...
