Mile High Runner's High. March 5, 2015 /. From Training in Paradise to Back to Reality. It’s been a whole month since I wrote last, and my, what a month it was! February was my lowest mileage month in almost a year at just under 34 miles, but I suppose that’s with some good reason. The following day, I got on a plane from Denver to Singapore. It felt great to have gotten a long run down right before I had to sit on a plane or in airports for 24 hours straight! Boarding the Celebrity Century for a 2-week ...

Mile High Runner's High. January 22, 2015 /. Watching the snow fall in Denver yesterday, it was hard to believe I was running in shorts and a tank top just this last weekend. After surviving the grueling half marathon the week before, I decided to take it easy last week. Oh wait, I didn’t decide that; my body did. After a few days, my back finally went back to normal, and I joined my run club Saturday with the excitement to run finally after the days off. Normally, Saturday run club is my day to go f...

Mile High Runner's High. February 3, 2015 /. Time to Drink Champagne and Dance on the Tables. It’s been a few weeks since I’ve written here, mostly out of a lack of free time and partially because, if I’m being honest, I’ve been in a slump with running since the tough half I did earlier in January. I was feeling burnt out and a little forced in my routine. That is, until this last weekend. I did my first long run since the half on January 24. Did Adnan really do it? The Colfax is far enough away still th...

Lily Runs the World. Marathon Training: Week 18. Weeks until Mountains 2 Beach Marathon: 3! I’m sure it’s my body just trying to recover, and it’s doing a pretty good job. I ended up with 137.25 miles for April, which is a little less than March, but I feel like it was a strong month and I’m still proud of my 13-minute PR at the Chardonnay 10-Miler in Santa Barbara. Here’s a look at the past week of training:. Monday – 7 miles easy @ 9:51. Wednesday – November Project running. The group is getting so big!

Lily Runs the World. San Diego Half Marathon Recap. Jeremy wearing the backpack they give all runners. The day before a race, I like to have a big bread-heavy lunch and a light dinner, usually a brothy soup. I’ve done this before my last three half marathons, and it seems to work well for me. We all stayed at a hotel downtown so we’d be close to the start and finish lines instead of having to wake up an hour earlier and try to find parking downtown SD somewhere. Booking it to the finish line. I’m g...

Lily Runs the World. Another Marathon Training Update. Weeks until Mountains 2 Beach Marathon: 4! Oops I did it again. I started writing this post two weeks ago but never finished, so here I am playing catch up once again and writing the longest posts ever. Well, the biggest things that happened the past few weeks were my longest run to date, 18 miles, and I PRed at the Chardonnay 10-Miler by 13 minutes! Here we go…. Week 14 – 23 miles total. Monday – Mile repeats (8 miles total). Tuesday – rest. I was i...

Lily Runs the World. Weeks until Mountains 2 Beach Marathon: 8. Right after running 12 of the hardest miles of my life. 8211; This week was made up of a few runs to get me back into the swing of things after my week off, and then the San Diego Half Marathon happened, where I finally got my sub-2 and PRed with a new time of 1:56:47. Total mileage: 33.5. After I was done, Jeremy and I went to McConnell’s Ice Cream and got frozen yogurt, where we used to go all the time when we lived in SB. My long run for ...

Lily Runs the World. Mountains 2 Beach Marathon Recap. Jeremy and I took Friday off work and headed up to Ojai after stopping at the Kogi. Food truck downtown LA to have the best chilaquiles of my life (Jeremy’s kimchi quesadilla was delicious also):. I made sure to to not eat the whole thing since I was sticking to foods lower in fiber the few days leading up to the race and who knows what this could have done to my stomach. We got to Ojai around 3pm or so, and checked in at the Ojai Rancho Inn. We head...

Lily Runs the World. Rose Bowl 10K Recap. The last bit of the course was a downhill into the stadium, which was awesome. I was sprinting so hard and I had to dodge people (including someone walking with a baby stroller), but I was gunning for a sub 50-minute time, and I made it just in the nick of time. Before the race began. No time to smile! I finished the race with a 7:28 mile! Average pace under 8 min/mile? The earliest I’ve ever drank a beer. March 1, 2015. Marathon Training: Week 7. 🙂 I always ski...

Mile High Running - Inspiration, Health & Wellness for Midlife Runners
Inspiration, Health and Wellness for Midlife Runners. Marathon Shape to Out of Shape – How Long? I’ll get right to it here. In my experience, it takes about 3 weeks of inactivity to go from strapping, light-toed marathon shape to being an out-of-shape sponge. Why did I let myself do nothing for three weeks, you might ask? Nevertheless, I put in the required miles to finish it in somewhat of a respectable time, for a 2-time marathon runner. I did it in just a pinch over 5 hours. 262 to 3 for a weekly long...

Mile High Sailing
July 5, 2007. Sailing the 7th day of Summer. We finally launched Segundo Vez. The 7th day of summer on Aurora Reservoir. What a great time! She was super easy to launch from the custom trailer and what a dream to sail! We owe a lot to her builder, Scott B. Williams and her designer, James Wharram. We could not be happier and wouldn't have any other boat. Betsy joined us the second day. And loved it. A few of the pups will join us when their PFDs arrive. Log of Bill and Houston.
