WXS.ca: Tilt Mania
http://www.wxs.ca/tilt-mania
Tilt Mania is a little arcade game I wrote which uses the sudden motion sensor (SMS) of modern apple laptops. It's similar to BubbleGym. In that it uses the computer itself as an input device, however it is freeware. You need an apple laptop with a sudden motion sensor (post 2005-ish). Play by tilting your computer. Big scores are good. Low scores are bad. Get big scores. Do whatever you want. If you do, tell me if you feel nice. Oh, and give me credit. DON'T COME COMPLAINING WHEN YOU BREAK YOUR COMPUTER.

Ambigrams at WXS.ca
http://www.wxs.ca/ambigram
Ambigram" is a general term for textual images which can be viewed in more than one way. This page includes only rotational ambigrams — which can be read both right side up and upside down — however there are many more types. Reflective ambigrams can be read in a mirror, and shift ambigrams can be read differently just by thinking about them a different way. I found a good starting point for making these was the ambigram-matic. So without further ado. The name Dix, which is a nickname for Richard (above).

WXS.ca: Never A Cross Word
http://www.wxs.ca/neveracrossword
Never A Cross Word. Download Never A Cross Word. Mac OS X, I believe 10.2 or later but I could be mistaken (I've only tested it under 10.4, 10.5 and 10.6). Never A Cross Word is a simple crossword helper. You enter all the cross-clues you know for a particular word, and it tells you a list of possibilities for that word. The syntax is a period (.) for every unknown, and the letter for the knowns, so for instance ex.ple could be "example" or "exciple". RSS feeds for Entries.

Gen Art Hack Party 2. March 29, 2015 at 03:22 PM categories: art. Two years later, I'm happy to announce the second Gen Art Hack Party. This event brings together artists and technologists to spend an intensive day building generative art in the browser. Last time I was impressed with what people brought to the table in just a day, (the old page is still archived online. RSS feeds for Entries.

February 01, 2015 at 03:17 PM categories: meta. I'm going to try to more regularly put out code studies/demos, with the goal of a regular shipping schedule being a motivator to bring projects to a state of completion. I've set up a page where I'll be putting those studies here. At the time of this post, I've only got one study done, but I'm going to be targeting a biweekly schedule. Check back for updates! Semaphore: Built with Processing
http://www.wxs.ca/applets/semaphore
Old Java version can be found here. Click on the program to give it focus, and then type a message. Semaphore is a archaic way of sending messages using flags. This applet is a handy translator for anyone who wants to send a message in semaphore without memorizing it. (or alternatively to test someone's semaphore knowledge). For more information see the Wikipedia article on semaphore. RSS feeds for Entries.

WXS.ca: Toronto maps
http://www.wxs.ca/oldtoronto
The city of Toronto's archives have put up high quality scans. Of some beautiful historical maps of the city. Unfortunately, they're trapped inside an image format nobody can read! On this page, I've set them free, making them available in a range of formats. Plan of Toronto Harbour, Joseph Bouchette, 1792, MT 101. Original (MrSID, from city of Toronto). Plan of York, Lieut. Philpotts, 1818, MT 109. Original (MrSID, from city of Toronto). Original (MrSID, from city of Toronto). RSS feeds for Entries.

I've been playing around with a new digital camera, and have made a few anaglyphs, which are those images which look 3d when seen with red/cyan glasses. Here is my method. Mark Newbold's Stereo 3d Stuff. RSS feeds for Entries.

February 16, 2015 at 01:02 PM categories: studies. I've put my second biweekly code study. I like how this one turned out. I've taken a classic interactive generative technique, in this case a cloth simulation, and have rendered it in a non-traditional manner. New studies biweekly here. RSS feeds for Entries.
