Friday, August 21, 2009. Castles for Sale - Sold. You don't need to be the Queen of England. To live in a castle - just rich or very lucky. Not all castles are national landmarks; many are private property. On several occasions, I've trekked up to the gates of a castle and found the entrance interdit - prohibited. This is slightly annoying after hiking up a long winding drive. I don't understand why they can't post the sign at the base of the hill. Are le chateau de Jonquier and le chateau de Montfaucon.

Tuesday, March 31, 2009. On Tuesdays I play in a soccer league near Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood. The field house is actually a converted manufacturing plant. There's also a very large Hispanic population nearby. The resulting aesthetic is a combination of Aztec murals and loading docks. Monday, May 19, 2008. Home Sweet… Airport Concourse. This is your captain speaking. We are on our final approach to O'Hare Airport in Chicago. Winds are 20 miles per hour from the Northwest, and the current ground temperature is 14 degrees Fahrenheit. By the time the plane lined up for landing, I had a perfect aerial view of the city - a skyline that no city in Europe can match. The excitement of returning home insulated me from the cold as I walked up the long jet way into a new chapter of my life.
