San Juan Solstice 50 and a Road Trip | Mountains and Trails

https://mountainsandtrails.wordpress.com/2016/07/14/san-juan-solstice-50-and-a-road-trip

Quest for the Crest 50k. Stillhouse 100k →. San Juan Solstice 50 and a Road Trip. July 14, 2016. Summer is fun. As a teacher, I get two months of freedom. Even better, my wife Marcelle and I work at the same school so we have the exact same schedule of days off. This makes planning vacations and weekend trips infinitely easier. Not soon after, I registered for the lottery and got in. I quickly began dreaming up a summer road trip out west around the race. More big Leadville mountains. Would I be able to ...

About | Mountains and Trails

https://mountainsandtrails.wordpress.com/about

I grew up playing team sports like many kids in rural America. After another concussion while playing football at Maryville College sidelined me for good in 2010, I needed something to replace my active and goal setting temperament. I took up road running rather casually for the next few years and then discovered trail running in 2014. I still vividly remember that first run on the Blue Trail at Edwin Warner. Nashville, Tennessee is home. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here.

Running the Art Loeb. San Juan Solstice 50 and a Road Trip →. Quest for the Crest 50k. May 19, 2016. The Quest for the Crest 50k runs up and down the Black Mountains outside of Burnsville, North Carolina. You go up and down the mountain 3 times. When you have passion, even the most difficult task will be enjoyable. Bobby McGee. Back at 2016/Forward to 2017. January was a tough month for me. I ran. I ran long. I ran hills. I’m going to give you an inside glance, as I prepare mentally and physically for my first 100 race. Please note, I did not say my last! When my foot first hit the trail in 2013 I had NO desire to run 100 miles. It has taken me at least 3 years to get to my current level of fitness to even entertain a 100 mile race. Where do I start? Mountains and Things

Monday, May 14, 2012. The beginning of our summit attempt began with three days of acclimating at Whitney Portal Campground at 8,000 feet. The campground is cradled in between huge, imposing granite walls. It is at the campground where I caught my first close-up glimpse of the sawtoothed giant towering 6,000 feet above me. As we descended back down to about 9,000 feet, my spirits improved dramatically. I was soon leading the way back down at break neck pace just shy of a jog. By around 6:00 pm, 1...

Family road trip adventures through our National Parks. Muddying it Up in Big Bend National Park. February 25, 2015. I’ve been organizing some old photos from our 2011 trip to the National Parks in the Southwest. One of the great surprises of this trip was Big Bend National Park. It may be a one of the lessor-known parks, but we loved everything about it… the smells, the silence, the window views, the wide-open spaces, the hot springs, and of course, the one and only, Ranger Dan. But what we loved most?
