Musingly Incidental: March 2009
http://musinglyincidental.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html
Sunday, March 29, 2009. Not Another Quarter Life Crisis or: How I Learned to Stop Ruminating and Love the Tarot. I had the quarter-life crisis in my mid-twenties. The "Where am I going? Did I pick the right major in college? I should have moved to LA or NY. Why am I not I writing for VOGUE/Elle/Nylon? I should have taken that internship junior year. I am mortal. I'm going to kick the bucket one day. Why am I unhappy in this relationship? Why have I settled for so many years? Where am I going? I also chos...
Musingly Incidental: January 2009
http://musinglyincidental.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html
Friday, January 30, 2009. One Bottle of Wine over the Line, Sweet Jesus. The setting: Book Club at Jamie's, Thursday, 6:30 pm, in Chicago. Six ladies get together to discuss the Jodi Picoult novel Nineteen Minutes. For those who aren't familiar with the piece, it's pretty heavy subject matter. I gave it three of five stars. Extremely thought-provoking material, but it drags in the middle. At book club there were old friends, new friends, veggie trays, stuffed mushrooms, and Taquitos. And there was wine.

Musingly Incidental: The Year I Broke My Dad's Heart
http://musinglyincidental.blogspot.com/2009/04/year-i-broke-my-dads-heart.html
Friday, April 17, 2009. The Year I Broke My Dad's Heart. In the early 2000s, I made a major life change that was difficult to share with many people in my family. When I thought about it, I got a little sick to my stomach, and at times a bit panicky. The one person I knew this "life change" would damage the most was my Dad. I had to come clean – I had become a Cubs fan. One day, it hit me – I’m a Cubs fan now. Dad: “Don’t tell me you’re finally rooting for those Cubbies, Erin.”. Follow me on Twitter.
Musingly Incidental: February 2009
http://musinglyincidental.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html
Thursday, February 19, 2009. Spoiled Meat and Mixed Signals. I got crabs on V.D. No, I didn't contract an STD. It just occurred to me I have yet to blog about my Valentine's Day experience, so let me have at it. First, there's the disclaimer: No matter how much I tout myself as the anti-girl, I am a GIRL. I love romance when it's not overdone, I crave attention when it's for something positive, and I want to cuddle until I get a back ache and have to roll out of the embrace to fall asleep. We went to the...

Long Story Short...: Reunion?
http://colleencomments.blogspot.com/2010/05/reunion.html
Monday, May 3, 2010. Why hello there, Internets. I know, I know. I just up and left you all. Hanging. Wondering. Waiting. Well, I apologize. I owe you that much at least. What I also owe you is an explanation. Unfortunately, I can't do that. So, instead, I'm going to just say, please. Welcome me back. Will you have me? I sure hope so. My how I've missed you. Remember the good days? The fond memories we shared? The joys that we endured? It's possible to forgive and not forget. And, yet, nothing has changed.
Long Story Short...: A Bit Like the Hokey Pokey
http://colleencomments.blogspot.com/2009/10/bit-like-hokey-pokey.html
Friday, October 30, 2009. A Bit Like the Hokey Pokey. Everyone knows what people say. That change is good. It makes life interesting. Keeps us guessing. It was a Friday night, in June of 2000. I was at a wedding in St. Louis. My cousin Mike was getting married, and it was a fun O'Brien party—lots of laughs, dancing and, yes, wine. After my second glass, I leaned over to Molly, my cousin who was a year behind me in school and had just graduated from KU, and asked her what she was planning to do now. I was...
Long Story Short...: Home is Where the Spackle Is
http://colleencomments.blogspot.com/2010/01/home-is-where-spackle-is.html
Monday, January 4, 2010. Home is Where the Spackle Is. In this economic climate, I know that there is a lot of intelligent discussion about how best to spend your money. There are experts that debate the rent vs. own situation all the time. I am not one of those experts. Sometimes I wish, and wonder, if I'd be better off if I were still flushing $1,000 in monthly rent. In short, I spent a grueling 3 months looking for the right place with my amazing realtor, Tom,. The building was converted to condos in ...
Long Story Short...: I'm a Sport
http://colleencomments.blogspot.com/2010/05/im-sport.html
Monday, May 10, 2010. Once upon a time, I was quite sporty. And now, after a 30-minute workout video, I can hardly move. Sitting down was hard today. Getting up was even worse. Muscles I didn't even know I had hurt. My hair may even be sore. I hate you, Jillian Michaels. It almost hurts to type. With summer on its way, I know cognitively I should be exercising to rid my body of the layer of fat (layers? That have accumulated through the last six months (nine? But I just have to be honest. The separate ou...
Long Story Short...: Spit it Out
http://colleencomments.blogspot.com/2009/10/spit-it-out.html
Tuesday, October 13, 2009. People, we have a situation. I have been briefed of said situation by a secret, covert informant and specially trained operative that chooses to keep his/her identity anonymous. It is my mother. She mentioned to me, in casual passing, that there is a grave uncertainty out there. A frightening misunderstanding taking place. It is a frank, misguided perception that I must address. So, here goes. And, you don't even have to say much of anything to have made a difference. And, come...
Long Story Short...: It Rings True
http://colleencomments.blogspot.com/2010/06/it-rings-true.html
Tuesday, June 1, 2010. It's a double-edged sword, to say the least. Unfortunately, for me, the conversation almost inevitably, and so it should, turns to children. How many, what ages, what sports they play, what talents they possess, and so on. Ironically, then, that it is the exact same conversation that often reveals to me the stark contrast between what clients, vendors or prospects THINK of me, and what is real. Most obviously, my age. Because at this point, I'm practically willing to buy a CZ ring ...
Long Story Short...: Openly Giving Thanks
http://colleencomments.blogspot.com/2008/11/openly-giving-thanks.html
Wednesday, November 26, 2008. This time of year is my favorite. Gathering family and friends to eat, drink, laugh, watch football and relax together. What's not to like? Traditionally, I would be also using this festive time to buy a boatload of gifts for those family and friends, including hostess gifts for the parties I'll attend and wine and ornaments for those who allow me to stay in their home. Therefore, on this most American of holidays, let me openly give thanks. Happy thanksgiving to you too!
Long Story Short...: In the Weeds
http://colleencomments.blogspot.com/2010/06/in-weeds.html
Monday, June 7, 2010. Tonight after work, I got into the elevator at my condo building with four others. Three young men in their late teens or early twenties in casual dress, and one older woman in what looked like a church pot-luck dinner dress and pearls. I slid in the front, closest to the elevator door. I smelled it instantly. For risk of drug profiling, I won't commit immediately to which character I believe was carrying the pot and the corresponding smell. The best part is this. During the show, p...
Long Story Short...: Gap Born to Fit Party & GIVEAWAYS!
http://colleencomments.blogspot.com/2009/08/gap-born-to-fit-party-giveaways.html
Wednesday, August 12, 2009. Gap Born to Fit Party and GIVEAWAYS! As I mentioned in an earlier post. I had the privilege to host a Gap Born to Fit. Party last night. Gap is celebrating its 40-year anniversary this year, and to celebrate, has re-engineered its 1969 jeans line in all new fits, styles and washes. And was it ever a good time! As a Brand Enthusiast, I was able to invite quite a few lucky girls to attend - and was fortunate to have Brenna host the event. We energetically (at least in spirit!
Long Story Short...: Healing Words
http://colleencomments.blogspot.com/2009/10/healing-words.html
Friday, October 16, 2009. I can't bring myself to write a funny, clever or silly post today. I just can't do it. Just when you think you have it bad, life throws a curveball into the mix. I don't want to imply that God does it to remind us that things are good, and that we are blessed, but I will say that when times are good, and I have the inability to see it, I find that something reminds me of how lucky I am. That's what I'm doing, and I am finding small comfort in knowing that this too shall pass.
