MY DERBYSHIRE BLOG

An every so often blog about life in the county of Derbyshire. Nov 15, 2014. AN UNSETTLING ENCOUNTER WITH A HORSE BOX. We now spend a lot of time in rural France and our bit of France is very much like Derbyshire, lovely hills, rivers, valleys and villages. Having returned home from a long spell in France I couldn’t help but be aware of some major differences between the two places we have chosen as our homes. She stopped and looked down at me with one of those looks that can only be described as a sneer...

MY DERBYSHIRE BLOG: November 2010

http://www.myderbyshireblog.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html

An every so often blog about life in the county of Derbyshire. Nov 13, 2010. Derbyshire boasts many a cafe and teashop. This was the spread at the Tea Gardens at Lea Gardens recently. I treated myself to a cupcake and a cappucino. They were delicious. However, on that day, I learned something important about cupcakes. There was a car parked outside the entrance to the gardens blocking the single track lane completely while it was being loaded up with plants. Glitter. Lots of it, all over my face. All pho...

MY DERBYSHIRE BLOG: LONGSHAW

http://www.myderbyshireblog.blogspot.com/2014/07/longshaw.html

An every so often blog about life in the county of Derbyshire. Jul 11, 2014. I can hardly believe that, having lived in Derbyshire for most of my life, and being National Trust members for over twenty years, I have never been to the Longshaw Estate until this year. I was almost embarrassed to admit I had never been there before! Three quarters of the way round on our walk we stopped for an ice cream and sat on a bench to enjoy the view. It takes more than a cool wind to put us Derbyshire (and Yorkshi...

MY DERBYSHIRE BLOG: January 2011

http://www.myderbyshireblog.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html

An every so often blog about life in the county of Derbyshire. Jan 9, 2011. A day out that took in Edale, Castleton and, last but not least, a slice of cake and a cup of tea at the tearooms at Monsal Head. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I have lived in Derbyshire for most of my life. It is a fascinating part of the world, with castles and stately homes, hills and dales, rivers and reservoirs, old mines and factories, great pubs and restaurants, curious customs and follies. MY OTHER BLOGS ARE HERE.

MY DERBYSHIRE BLOG: WHAT TO DO ON A WET BANK HOLIDAY IN DERBYSHIRE

http://www.myderbyshireblog.blogspot.com/2014/05/what-to-do-on-wet-bank-holiday-in.html

An every so often blog about life in the county of Derbyshire. May 28, 2014. WHAT TO DO ON A WET BANK HOLIDAY IN DERBYSHIRE. Having found ourselves at home in Derbyshire instead of in France, we were faced with the ancient conundrum of what to do for entertainment on Bank Holiday Monday. There’s usually a cup of tea and a piece of cake available in the village hall at these events too. Each village will have a theme to their well dressings and in Brackenfield it was gardening. There are many similarities...

LIFE WITH LULU: December 2012

http://lifewithlulu-jean.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html

A little scrapbook of life with our standard poodle, Lulu. December 19, 2012. Lulu got herself all tangled up the other afternoon. I was busy chatting to a neighbour in the lane and Lulu amused herself by investigating the nearby hedge bottom.  I heard her squeal and saw that she had a bit of bramble stuck in the fur on one ear. I attempted to gently pull the bramble out of the fur on her ears but she squealed and shook her head so much that the bramble ended up stuck to both ears and the fur on her neck!

LIFE WITH LULU: February 2014

http://lifewithlulu-jean.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html

A little scrapbook of life with our standard poodle, Lulu. February 23, 2014. LULU’S NEW BEDROOM. We have done a lot of clearing out in the house because we are going to sell it.  The little bedroom was full of bookcases and was used as a study. . Now most of the bookcases are gone and Lulu uses it as her bedroom! 160; She seems to like it in there and settled down as soon as we moved her bed in. Her snoring will be less noticeable than when she had her bed on the landing too, so we’re all happy!

LIFE WITH LULU: July 2014

http://lifewithlulu-jean.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html

A little scrapbook of life with our standard poodle, Lulu. July 17, 2014. Lulu appreciates leftovers as much as anyone.  Who doesn’t love getting at the brown, crozzled edges of a good shepherd’s pie or cauliflower cheese? Mind you, not all of us have to have a clip put in our ears to stop them from getting sticky! Luckily, Lulu doesn’t seem to mind one bit.  It’s worth looking like a daft poodle to get at those crozzled edges. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Much easier, we thought.

LIFE WITH LULU: ONE MAN AND HIS DOG

http://lifewithlulu-jean.blogspot.com/2013/12/one-man-and-his-dog.html

A little scrapbook of life with our standard poodle, Lulu. December 15, 2013. ONE MAN AND HIS DOG. Lulu is without a doubt a lovely dog.  She has such a good nature.  She is a delight to have as company when Nick is working away from home but she definitely misses her dad. If he is away for a week she spends the first three days looking for him everywhere.  We cuddle on the sofa but I can sense that all the time she is wondering when he’s going to come through the door. LIFE WITH LULU: June 2013

http://lifewithlulu-jean.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html

A little scrapbook of life with our standard poodle, Lulu. June 10, 2013. LULU AND THE FROG CHORUS. It was a nice day so we went for a walk in the forest of Preuilly.  We parked by the lake and the noise of the frogs was quite deafening. We had a lovely long walk, about an hour altogether, and most of it was in shade so we didn’t get too hot. So although it was nice to walk in the forest, I think we’ll leave Lulu at home if we go again in summer, which is a shame. . Links to this post. Top of the pops.

LIFE WITH LULU: IN THE BEGINNING

http://lifewithlulu-jean.blogspot.com/2009/09/in-beginning.html

A little scrapbook of life with our standard poodle, Lulu. September 28, 2009. Lulu arrives at her new home. In the mid 1980's some friends had two black standard poodles and I always thought what wonderful dogs they were. One day the local vet asked them if they could manage another one, a chocolate male who was currently at the RSPCA. They said no, but they knew someone who might. Looking after an elderly dog and having to have him put to sleep was an unhappy experience. We thought we couldn't face...

LIFE WITH LULU: May 2014

http://lifewithlulu-jean.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html

A little scrapbook of life with our standard poodle, Lulu. May 12, 2014. Lulu loves to chase a stick but she has never quite got the hang of the idea that she has to give it back for us to throw it again. Consequently we invented the art of “double sticking”.  You need to watch the video to see what I mean. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Lulu is our fourth standard poodle. Rescue dogs always come with baggage so after Dusty we decided to have a puppy. Much easier, we thought.

LIFE WITH LULU: September 2013

http://lifewithlulu-jean.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html

A little scrapbook of life with our standard poodle, Lulu. September 23, 2013. Lulu is five years old now and still hates being groomed. Here she is as we set off for the “hairdressers” last week.  It had been six weeks since her last trim and she was looking a bit shaggy. But we have ways of doing things! I do sympathise with her.  She seems to have very sensitive skin and the grooming process must be very uncomfortable for her.  The ladies that do it are very kind and careful with her. Here she is look...
