As a requirement of The Fighting Pi, each student actively participates in at least 25 hours of collaboratively donated time with team community service and outreach activities. The team, as a whole, continually volunteers at the Ronald McDonald House of Detroit. And participates in Macomb County's Adopt-A-Road. And the Macomb Orchard Trail Adopt-A-Trail. The team has also raised money for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. Adoption of A Local Road.

These VI's were written by the Fighting Pi over numerous competition seasons. 1718 created a comprehensive tutorial that explains commonly used LabVIEW programming elements and placed it online. Junior FLL

Junior FIRST Lego League. In the first pilot year, 2004, more than 375 participants looked for ways to improve access for people with different physical abilities. The challenge was called "No Limits". The second pilot year, 2005, nearly 900 students learned about habitat of marine life in"Ocean Odyssey". FIRST created an event called the Collegiate Aerial Robotics Demonstration (CARD) in 2011. It is an attempt to continue the FIRST competition after high school. 2011's pilot competiton was very successful. In order to increase the complexity of the competition over the FIRST robotics competition, colleges that were involved competed in two games: one required flying robots called "quadrocopters", and the second was a ground vehicle game. 2011 CARD Game Animation. The team interacts a great deal with the community. Team 1718 spreads the message of FIRST by presenting to local schools of all grade levels, as well as providing demonstrations at events such as the Selfridge Air Show. Maker Faire at The Henry Ford.
