Nepal: Bouncing through the rapids

Bouncing through the rapids. The oars spliced through the water as we sped towards a huge rock. Everybody, back paddle! Waves splashed over the raft while the swirling current pushed us toward the rocky shore. Now, forward paddle.". We steered out of the whirlpool, just inches away from capsizing the raft. It was a day of energetic white water rafting at the end of our 8-day Annapurna trek in western Nepal. Remember, don’t panic," he advised. You can go for a swim here," Mojo said. Nepal: Jungle stampede

http://www.nepaljourney.blogspot.com/1991/10/jungle-stampede.html

I grabbed the harness as the elephant suddenly raced from its berth. We lunged on its back, streaking through the jungle toward the open plain. The morning sun sparkled on the tall elephant grass, but that temptation did not low down our racy ride. Our elephant driver chuckled as we sped along the the ground, leaving the rest of our convoy well behind us. It was a calculated stunt, giving us a final memory of our relaxing stay at the jungle lodge. Posted by Hari Kotrotsios @ 5:47 PM. Sunrise on the peaks.

And an endless road past endless mountains. The endlessness turns into a barren emptiness. A lone horseman crosses the plain against a snow-capped peak in the background. The long dusty road marked by a row of telephone poles stretching across the landscape. The bare, rocky landscape turns into a grassy plain and eventually gives way to a sandy dessert. Tibet: Get thee to a nunnery

http://tibettrip.blogspot.com/2007/06/get-thee-to-nunnery.html

Get thee to a nunnery. The highlight of my brief stay in Lhasa was a self-planned visit to a nunnery late one afternoon, where I spent a pleasant and entertaining hour. As I stood against the wall of the main chapel listening to the prayers, one of the nuns motioned me over and moved across so I could sit on the cushion with the chanting nuns. Given the great language barrier, we all smiled and nodded at each other. And they kept staring at me. At one point I offered them my Tibet guidebook as I had been...
