I’m sorry to have neglected you lo this past (almost) year. To make it up to you, here is a picture of a Great Blue Heron eating a gopher she has hunted down and killed in a cemetery. I have seen Great Blue Herons hunting in wetlands many times, spearing with their dagger-like beaks unsuspecting fishes or frogs as they swim by. But a heron hunting gophers on dry land in a historic Mendocino cemetery? Well, this was a first for me. And so has been my life. Links to this post . Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Luck is just weird. The only thing certain about luck is that it will eventually change. The last time I posted to this blog was on Friday, March 7. On that day, I bared my soul and pondered a string of bad luck that seemed to be following me around over the past year. I posted that blog at 2:46 pm. Four hours later, I arrived at a friend’s 30. This image captures the exact moment that my luck changed. See the guy in the suit? Links to this post . Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

My long winter was bitter. No rain to make the air less brittle. No merry taps on my roof. But spring inevitably comes. Arriving unannounced with flowers. Trailing an equinox rain. Links to this post . Happy International Women’s Day! To celebrate, I give you this artwork by Geoff Dunbar (from his 1979 animated film,. Alongside a screed concerning the benefits of weaponizing titties. Enjoy! Anyone who reads these blog posts regularly knows that I have complicated views when it comes to titties. This titt...

I love how people give phases of life names that supposedly relate to where you are in your allotment of existence. Quarter-life crisis. End-of-life crisis. Mid-life crisis. Since none of us know how much life we’ve been allotted, I think this sort of categorization is hilarious. And why would you want to do that? I suggest that rather than living for someday, you instead live all of your life as if you don’t have very much of it left. Because maybe you don't. Links to this post . Or you can muster up th...

I Had A Good Home But I Left. As the holidays approach, I frequently think about those Americans who are serving overseas who won’t be able to spend Thanksgiving or Christmas or the New Year with their families. I think a lot about the hardships and risks they face every day so that the rest of us can live free and exercise our Constitutional rights. I had a good home but I left. I had a good home but I left, right, left. That big fucking bomb made me deaf, deaf. A Humvee mechanic put his Kevlar on wrong.

What is it that I want to do? What is it that I want from you? I’ll do what you want me to -. I’ll bear the thorns and nails. Chase me down then tear me up. Drink my tears from a lover’s cup. Knock me down; I’ll just get up -. I’ll bear the thorns and nails. Set me loose into the sky. Watch me fall or watch me fly. Not up to you but up to I -. I’ll bear the thorns and nails. Butterfly image taken today at Big River. I'm not normally a pink and purple butterfly kind of person, but what can I say?

Naked With A Book. Naked with a book. That’s it. The last one. I’ve been writing a haiku a day during the entire month of April because April is National Poetry Month, and that haiku up there is the last one. It’s a dedication to the book that inspired my haiku-a-day art project (more on that in a bit). It's also an ode to my naked-outdoor-haiku-reading-to-the-redwoods art project. You didn’t know about the naked-outdoor-haiku-reading-to-the-redwoods art project, did you? Transitioning from an urban land...
