Schott's Junk Drawer: Placebo Effect
http://schottsjunkdrawer.blogspot.com/2008/02/placebo-effect.html
Tuesday, February 5, 2008. A couple weeks ago, while driving in to work, I heard a really interesting story on NPR. Measurements improved for group one but not group two. Needless to say, these findings provoked a lot of commentary about the "placebo effect." (And btw, there's an evil twin to that. It's called the " nocebo effect. More about that later.). Nice to learn a new word: nocebo. February 12, 2008 at 3:33 PM. February 14, 2008 at 10:27 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Schott's Junk Drawer: life goes on........
http://schottsjunkdrawer.blogspot.com/2008/05/life-goes-on_01.html
Thursday, May 1, 2008. Three weeks ago, I wrote: "I'm back (sort of)." I spoke too quickly. I went down to Florida on 4/15 to see my Dad for his 88th birthday. It was a semi-surprise. I didn't stay for long (went back home the following day), but it was well worth it. That call from the hospice nurse came on a Friday (4/18). The following Monday evening (4/21) I got another call telling me Dad had passed. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Schott's Junk Drawer: April 2008
http://schottsjunkdrawer.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html
Thursday, April 10, 2008. I'm back (sort of). Well, it's been, what, seven weeks since I last posted? In the hyper-accelerated online world, that's practically forever. I obviously wouldn't survive in the frenzied 24/7 world described in this recent New York Times article. Then again, maybe I would survive- physically, mentally, and emotionally at least.). Schott's Junk Drawer: Tal Ben-Shahar Does The Daily Show
http://schottsjunkdrawer.blogspot.com/2008/02/tal-ben-shahar-does-daily-show.html
Thursday, February 21, 2008. Tal Ben-Shahar Does The Daily Show. I've been doing a little more research about Tal Ben-Shahar, the Harvard professor who teaches that school's most popular course, Psych 1504- Positive Psychology. And who was featured towards the end of that Sixty Minutes piece about happiness in Denmark that I wrote about a couple of days ago. Prof Ben-Shahar is actually a pretty hip dude. He's got his own web site. This guy is definitely positioning himself to be a Media Star! I am a psyc...

Just A Thought: January 2008
http://justathought85.blogspot.com/2008_01_01_archive.html
Random thoughts that come to mind. Thursday, January 31, 2008. Do you think modern medicine is affecting evolution? I was asked that question the other day and it took 24 hours to register. Do I think modern medicine is affecting evolution? Is it possible that by helping people with cancer, cystic fibrosis, Huntington's and other lethal genetic mutations we are enabling them to pass on their 'mutated' genes and weakening the phrase. Survival of the fittest. Anyway it's just a thought. Holly Was All Like.

Random thoughts that come to mind. Thursday, June 12, 2008. I hope many of you have heard of Randy Pausch and his book The Last Lecture, if you haven't I highly recommend you read it and get on youtube and view the actual last lecture. The book, a national bestseller, is a short 206 pages long and is full of useful information that Pausch wanted to leave behind for his children but is also insightful for anyone. Paucsh had 6 childhood dreams:. 1 Being in zero gravity. 2 Playing in the NFL. The book has p...
