Food and Drink, Events, Day Trips, Sights, and C-ville Links. Sunday, May 20, 2007. Returning on the train is much more reliable. Manassas, Culpeper, C-ville the train approaches from the east. Notes From C-ville: Starr Hill Brewing Co. and Tasting Room

http://notesfromcville.blogspot.com/2008/01/starr-hill-brewery-and-tasting-room.html

Food and Drink, Events, Day Trips, Sights, and C-ville Links. Tuesday, January 22, 2008. Starr Hill Brewing Co. and Tasting Room. Half of the appeal of the place is the industrial digs. West Main Starr Hill could brew 1,500 Barrels annually. The Crozet home can make 10,000 barrels a year with room for expansion. Help with that expansion will come in part from a distribution deal recently signed with Anheuser Busch. A sign next to the tasting room bathroom brings back the old days. Starr Hill Brewing Co.

Notes From C-ville: Bodo's Bagels

http://notesfromcville.blogspot.com/2009/05/bodos-bagels.html

Food and Drink, Events, Day Trips, Sights, and C-ville Links. Wednesday, May 20, 2009. Three locations in Charlottesville, a local institution, Bodo's serves up bagels as early as 6:30AM on the weekdays if you're up. It's a good time to go because during regular hours or say 10AM on a weekend you'll have to wait a while before biting into the doughy goodness. Below is the Preston Ave location early one morning. When I first moved to town after college before starting school again in the fall, I tried to ...

Notes From C-ville: Jinx’s Pit Stop

http://notesfromcville.blogspot.com/2008/12/jinxs-pit-stop.html

Food and Drink, Events, Day Trips, Sights, and C-ville Links. Thursday, December 18, 2008. Jinx’s Pit Stop. Once I spent an early weekend morning at the Collier’s towing lot. I was met by an overweight man outside who after finishing his coke crushed the can in his hand and threw it on the ground. I followed him into the house-turned-office where he generated a receipt. He just as easily could have led me into Jinx’s barbecue joint. 1307 E. Market Street. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Turk Mountain...

Notes from Carroll Gardens: June 2010

http://notesfromcarrollgardens.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html

Notes from Carroll Gardens. Monday, June 14, 2010. Results for this cup of dirt were back within a week. I expected some lead, with the BQE and industrial New York as prime suspects, and moderate levels were found. It was in the low end of the moderate range, so it's not too concerning. The tomatoes, which would have been fine because they are a fruiting vegetable, unfortunately succumbed to a fungus, perhaps fusarium wilt. Tuesday, June 1, 2010. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Notes from Carroll Gardens. Saturday, August 21, 2010. Until Oct. 31, weather permitting, a pair of brothers from New Jersey will be constructing and showing off their incredible bamboo structure. The scale is immense, overtaking much of a segment of roof at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Although the baby couldn't tolerate much more than 20 minutes on site, he did grant us access to the speedy elevator while others were turned away. No stranger to clamming. Notes from Carroll Gardens: The High Line

http://notesfromcarrollgardens.blogspot.com/2009/08/high-line.html

Notes from Carroll Gardens. Monday, August 10, 2009. Following the trend of rails to trails conversions all over the country, the High Line opened in June 2009. It takes the idea a step further though, since the train line is elevated. The section from Gansevoort to 20th Street, roughly paralleling 10th Avenue, is open, fully landscaped with benches. The website. The grounds and old church are spectacular. Looking for cold drinks and caffeine we wandered into La Taza de Oro. Atlantic Avenue Train Tunnel.

Notes from Carroll Gardens: Underground Train Tunnel

http://notesfromcarrollgardens.blogspot.com/2009/08/underground-train-tunnel.html

Notes from Carroll Gardens. Monday, August 17, 2009. After seeing this scene a month ago, I was intrigued. What could induce people to climb down a manhole in the middle of Atlantic Avenue? In this well-organized adventure into an underground train tunnel, two rent-a-cops control traffic around the open manhole. A generator roars above ground to light a string of lights within the tunnel. This is the line for the first tour. A second line for the second tour was lined up when we left.

Notes from Carroll Gardens: Blizzard Dec '10

http://notesfromcarrollgardens.blogspot.com/2011/01/blizzard-dec-10.html

Notes from Carroll Gardens. Sunday, January 2, 2011. The pictures are a week after the storm dumped 20 inches in Central Park and wind blew some impressive drifts, like the one in our backyard. Mary was buried up to her chin. With it 50 degrees today, much of it has already melted. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Atlantic Avenue Train Tunnel. Dutchess Co. - Meadowbrook Farm. Notes from Carroll Gardens: Hard Shell Clams

http://notesfromcarrollgardens.blogspot.com/2009/06/hard-shell-clams.html

Notes from Carroll Gardens. Monday, June 22, 2009. Two and a half hours from Brooklyn, depending on traffic, Mercenaria mercenaria. Can be collected from the estuaries. After obtaining the necessary permits and gauges, we waded into the shallow water. Using feet as shovels, we collected these specimens. We threw back the littlest one for next time. These were much bigger than the clams usually served in restaurants, like small ravioli. We plan to incorporate the shells, whole or crushed into the garden.

Notes from Carroll Gardens. Monday, May 24, 2010. Roaming in the back of the garden, not the typical brown shelled oozer. I think it is a Cepaea nemoralis. The current state of the back garden as of May 24, 2010. Last year we hadn't even started yet. And the hops have sprouted. Today I planted morning glory seeds after work. They soaked for about 20 hours beforehand, which may have been overkill. Sunday, May 9, 2010. A couple Golding hop rhizomes. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Atlantic Avenue Train Tunnel.

Tuesday, 20 October 2015. The Many Fathers of Batman. Long Halloween, Jeff Loeb and Tim Sale. I’m going to dig into three of the best-known of these fathers. These are all men who have played an instrumental role in moulding the Caped Crusader, men he's turned to as replacements for the late lamented Thomas Wayne. Two of them have done a poor job, in completely opposite ways, and one of them is just the father that he needs. And Andrew Vachss’s terrible Batman: The Ultimate Evil. Leap to mind -. Though h...

Daniel and Friends

Come read my mail! How I Met Jesus. Wednesday, March 21, 2018. Meet Cyndi, a Fruitful Single. The Bible says that unmarried Christians can be concerned about the things of the Lord, how they may please the Lord. (1 Corinthians 7:32-35.) But what does this look like in real life? I got the idea to record a series of short audio interviews with unmarried Christians who are using their singleness fruitfully for the Lord. My hope is that these interviews will help more singles live lives of fruitfulness.
