The Old Ghost Road. Travel Times and Distances. Weather & Safety. At 85km, The Old Ghost Road is New Zealand’s longest continuous ‘single-track’. The trail traverses a wide range of landscapes that include steep-sided river gorges, spectacular mountain tops, wide open valleys and majestic rainforest. Reservations for the four new hut sites along the track can be made here. Two other pre-existing huts, Goat Creek and Mokihinui Forks, require Department of Conservation annual hut passes or tickets.
