My Broken Brain

Tuesday, 21 July 2015. If you brain isn't broken READ THIS! I often tried to give a Day In The Life of living with a mild or moderate brain injury to no avail. It is not that I think its important enough or wouldn't be a good read but it really does not place enough emphasis on the true nature of the beast. What does it really mean to be brain injured? As a Medic, I am surrounded by incidents as they are referred to by industry. Sounds innocuous enough? The monitor on the day in question saw the LELs mon...

My Broken Brain: August 2013

http://www.onebrokenbrain.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 28 August 2013. What would I do now if I got to do it over. Here are some things I would do if I had life to do over:. As much as this seems ludicrous and might jam the doctor offices,. I would get an EEG before an actual brain injury occurred. Why? I met a doctor after my injury and surgery who chose to have me take an EEG. What is he going to compare it too? My brain is already damaged. I would get either a CT scan or MRI of my entire head and brain or better yet my entire body. Had I been s...

Wednesday, 31 July 2013. Disability and Me by loren gahala. Disability and Me by loren gahala. July 13,04 The fall of Icarus and the birth of Sisyphus. If you knew my pain and the weight of my burden you would not be quite so quick to judge. Watching what's left of my personality be consumed by constant pain and frustration. Trying to zip up my jacket five times before finally giving up. Having people walk faster to get ahead of me in line at a restaurant. Getting doors slammed in my face. Having to re-t...

My Broken Brain: March 2013

http://www.onebrokenbrain.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

Sunday, 17 March 2013. Here it is 2013 and unfortunately it seems to a greater extent not much has changed since I began my journey in late 1977. Certainly, we have better technology. We have several generations of improvements in CT Scans, MRI's and the awareness in sports has taken a great leap forward in acknowledging the consequences of concussions. The cost to do nothing but turn a blind eye to this sees a blight upon all of society. I mentioned that the cycle is loss of income, divorce, drug and al...

My Broken Brain: Blame

http://www.onebrokenbrain.blogspot.com/2015/04/blame.html

Saturday, 4 April 2015. Regardless of fault, your loved one has a mountain to climb. Brain injury is one of the most difficult injury to recover from. Blame after the fact has no bearing on recovery except to retard it. Blame can be on so may levels. I should not have drank and drove, I should not have taken that illicit drug, if only I had not gone to the bar and gotten into the fight,. If I had only worn my helmet, and the list goes on. By harbouring resentment will only manifest in a negative outcome.

The Dog Blog: Sitting in 2 steps.

http://yourdogblog.blogspot.com/2013/03/sitting-in-2-steps.html

What you just might need! Sunday, 17 March 2013. Sitting in 2 steps. I have mentioned using a treat for reward. A compliment a pat on the head can work as well. The objective is simply achieved without hitting, rubbing the nose in it, kicking or any other form of cruelty.towards an animal. Chevy our youngest, cannot catch a treat if his life depended on it and as quick as it hits the floor it's gone and he would go without. If you wish to train your dog to bring in the mail, determine the size of your do...

Once the dog can sit then simply show the treat and draw your hand away and down toward the floor until he is lying down. Again continue to use the command "Lie Down" as your perform the process. A fun trick is holding a treat against a wall in your house, high enough for the dog to stand on his hind legs and place his front paws onto the wall. Say "Your Busted" when he does it. The Dog Blog: Training 101 repeat

http://yourdogblog.blogspot.com/2012/06/training-101-repeat.html

What you just might need! Wednesday, 27 June 2012. I have said before the art of training a dog is repetition. There is no need to hit a dog. Evaluate yourself first before you punish the dog. Were you consistent? Were you giving the wrong signals? Quite often you will find that it is you that is at fault and not the dog. What do I mean? You see I am misleading you right now by not being forthright in my explanation. Now that cute, "love me tender", response is now a liability that you have to undo.

The Dog Blog: July 2012

http://yourdogblog.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html

What you just might need! Tuesday, 3 July 2012. For new dog owners and a refresher for us all. It is summer and the temps are rising. Dogs sweat through their pads on their feet. Walking them on a very hot pavement will not only burn their pads but could lead to heat exhaustion or stroke. Walk your dogs on grass at park or take them to the beach or lake where they can cool down in the water. Ensure that they are well hydrated and even add ice cubes to their water bowl. The Dog Blog: The art of the treat! Taking the lead!

http://yourdogblog.blogspot.com/2012/06/art-of-treat-taking-lead.html

What you just might need! Wednesday, 27 June 2012. The art of the treat! I said this next blog was to do with training the dog for the leash but you could name it train the dog with a treat for anything. Let us start with the bath. Eventually you will want to bath your dog. Either he rolled in something, got muddy or simply needs to be groomed. If you have oodles of money you may opt to pay someone to do it for you but a bath does not have to be a test of wills. Kibble from their dog bowl will suffice&#4...

What you just might need! Thursday, 28 March 2013. A few more tricks. Now that you have the hang of training feel free to try yet another trick. To have the dog lay down, have him sit first. Once he is sitting, place the treat near his nose and then draw your hand down towards the floor and then once he is lying down, state the command "Lie Down". This site is more designed for the urban dweller who has a small to medium sized dog that is not about to be shown or used for anything other than a family pet.

The Dog Blog: March 2012

http://yourdogblog.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html

What you just might need! Sunday, 18 March 2012. This is a crucial step into the health of your dog. Boundaries need to be in place with everyone before the dog comes home. If you have children, they need to be monitored especially toddlers. Limit the time the toddlers have and try not to let the kids become over excited with a lot of screeching and running around. The calmer the environment the calmer the dog will be. It is a reflection of you as is your children. Introduce the pup to new environments&#...

One Broken Acorn | the prequel of a mighty oak

The prequel of a mighty oak. Running Acorns Don’t Plant Roots! April 14, 2014. April 14, 2014. If God calls me to a place then I am called to endure. Like David under King Saul, it is more important that I learn to get my heart right than to worry about the hearts of others. God is my defender. Only when I am truly submitted to him and hiding in the secret place of the shadow of His wing will I be protected. April 12, 2014.
