gunksdesigns: February 2012

http://gunksdesigns.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html

Saturday, February 25, 2012. Getting Creative with an old T-Shirt. As one matures as an artist over time, one learns to “trust the process”. There are times when I don’t. And that’s usually when I have a lesson to learn. This time I decided to “trust the process”. This is what happened. From this.to this. My husband’s under shirt was really worn. The rib at the neckline was torn and there was a hole under one ar. Since it was a really long T-Shirt, I cut away the hem and replaced the worn rib at the neck.

gunksdesigns: Quick and easy hat or bonnet display. Tutorial.

http://gunksdesigns.blogspot.com/2012/06/quick-and-easy-hat-or-bonnet-display.html

Friday, June 8, 2012. Quick and easy hat or bonnet display. Tutorial. I needed a display stand to photograph the bonnets that I smocked. So I decided to use some items that I had lying around the house to make one. The stand was very easy to make and if you don't have the supplies listed below, you can improvise with a substitute. You will need :. A washed and dried empty food can. A ball of string, rope or twine. By the way you can also use a plastic plant pot instead of an empty can, if you prefer.

Sunday, April 1, 2012. Tank Bandana Dresses with Kanzashi flowers. After making some tank dresses, I decided to make some flowers with the scraps of fabric that I had left over. Kanzashi is a Japanese fabric flower making technique. I recently bought some Kanzashi makers made by Clover. I have always liked the sewing notions made by this company. If I had more space in my sewing room, I think I might own almost everything they make. Another advantage is that I can sit and make many of them while my husba...

Saturday, December 31, 2011. Altering a man's dress shirt. Shorten a cuffed sleeve. This method only works when you have to shorten the sleeve by ¾ inch or less. If you need to shorten the sleeves by more than ¾ inch, there are two other methods i hope to post some time later. Carefully unpick the cuffs using a seam ripper. If there are pleats, pin the pleats and stitch to hold in place. If they have gathers, then gather by hand. Mark the cutting line. Remember to allow some seam allowance. Carefully rem...

Monday, May 28, 2012. Stenciled Bibs and Burp cloths. After making some bibs and burp cloths with the scraps that I had left over after completing a quilt, I decided use up more scraps. I was in a real bib making mood. Aside from the gourds above these are also two of my favorite images from my collection of stencils. Links to this post. Location: Toronto, ON, Canada. gunksdesigns: November 2011

http://gunksdesigns.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html

Monday, November 21, 2011. I offered to knit a scarf for my friend. It took a bit longer to knit than I planned but am happy with the way it turned out. I found the pattern for this scarf at www.lionbrand.com. It's an easy pattern but I made a few adjustments. I added four stitches to widen the border. I also wanted to try knitting a scarf with pockets, so I added a pocket at each end. I did not follow instruction for the length. Instead I measured it on myself as I came towards the end.

My next block/project will be better. Then we finally have the finished baby animal quilt squares. They were started over 5 years ago. I have worked on them off and on.
