Diagnosis: No Radio: January 2008

Books Comics. Music. Ponies. Tuesday, January 29, 2008. The Last of the Last Man. First of all, it should be mentioned that I'm a huge comic book geek. In the past couple years I've been a little more "out" about it, but I've been a pretty regular comic book reader for about fifteen years, since roughly the same time I started avidly listening to music. Anyway, here's a link. Posted by No Radio. Links to this post. Monday, January 28, 2008. Secret Origin of Mack the Knife, Part One. This, thought Eddie, ...

Diagnosis: No Radio: April 2008

Books Comics. Music. Ponies. Thursday, April 24, 2008. Of mustaches and such. Can I just very quickly point you towards some music. It's the end of the work day (part one) and I've spent most of it thinking about bus tickets to NYC and the incredible ATP Festival line-up. In the Catskills of all places ( Shecky Green. Opening for My Bloody Valentine! And generally being antsy. It's my own fault, I wore very mismatched patterns and it's tweaking me out. And the Fuck Buttons' Street Horrsing. A baby for la...

Diagnosis: No Radio: September 2007
http://noradiorecs.blogspot.com/2007_09_01_archive.html
Books Comics. Music. Ponies. Tuesday, September 11, 2007. Continuing with the new musics! Hooray for the return of our espresso machine! Team- I've already forgotten what this album is called. Their first one was loaded with hooks, every other song was a pop hit. This one feels slick, slippery. I hope I'll get back to listen through it again, but chances are strong I won't. St Vincent- "Marry Me". No. Wispy, meandering. I actually forgot I had it on. Shout Out Louds- "Our Ill Wills" Holy Swedish! The wri...

Diagnosis: No Radio: August 2011

Books Comics. Music. Ponies. Tuesday, August 30, 2011. The New 52: Part Two (or why you should care). I am a big advocate for superheroes. Superheroes and the reading of them are like vitamins. They strengthen parts of the spirit and morale. Reading is great for you. Reading fiction, even better for you. Might it not be a good idea to now and then read about people whose defining characteristic is that they are inherently good? I mean, isn't that what the whole New Testament is supposed to be about?

Books Comics. Music. Ponies. Monday, June 30, 2008. To Boldly Go Where No One Should Have Gone to Begin With. I would have taken pictures, but there was really no point. Some time I’ll take you all to the Saturday Super Flea back home, you can imagine everyone there is wearing crimson with little triangular buttons and you’ll get the idea. When I arrived at the Ramada (seriously , how the fuck do I allow myself to be talked into these things? Time out. Two things have just happened. First, I noti...8220;...

Diagnosis: No Radio: Unstability: Reading Kirby and Lee's Fantastic Four #1 (continued)
http://noradiorecs.blogspot.com/2014/08/fantastic-four-1-part-two-onward-lets.html
Books Comics. Music. Ponies. Tuesday, August 26, 2014. Unstability: Reading Kirby and Lee's Fantastic Four #1 (continued). Fantastic Four #1 (part two). Let’s do a quick note on prose and art. As for the art, look, Kirby’s an acquired taste at the best of times (see below). And this is not the best of times. He’s still stretching (get it? BEN: There ain’t no such thing as Monster Island. SUE: There’s only one way to find out. NARRATOR: Minutes later, on Monster Island…. Another strong argument for solar.

Books Comics. Music. Ponies. Thursday, August 28, 2014. Unstability: Reading Kirby and Lee's The Fantastic Four #2. The Fantastic Four #2. The Skrulls. A war-like intergalactic empire. Constant cosmic threat to the Marvel Universe. Total ass-clowns. Arriving in issue two, we find that the Four are famous. Intergalactically famous. Based, apparently, on that one time they beat up that ugly guy in a cave. Johnny wrecks a rocket, then gets picked up by Skrull Reed and Skrull Sue in a Studebaker, which may o...

Books Comics. Music. Ponies. Monday, September 15, 2008. Extra information is certainly one of the first things that stood out in DFW's work, and as a style it's one I openly cribbed when working on my Flying Burrito Brothers book. Sure, it indicates certain.mental health issues when a writer cannot physically bear the thought of a stray related fact left on the cutting room floor. But it also indicates a deep investment in things. As goodbyes go, this one is overly long and rambles into places it need n...

Books Comics. Music. Ponies. Monday, August 25, 2014. Unstability: Reading Kirby and Lee's Fantastic Four #1. Given that this week would be Jack Kirby’s ninety-seventh birthday, and that I’m about to go into heavy re-writing on a novel whose working title, Unstable Molecules. Is taken from one of the brilliantly science-y concepts that came out of Kirby and Lee’s original run on the Fantastic Four. The Fantastic Four #1. So many exclamation points! The incredible Human TorchHands. Is a twenty-four page c...
