Wednesday, July 30, 2008. And making it national for JETs throughout the country, saying goodbye to friends (Edel left on Sunday :( and hello to new ones (the first of our two new Honjo people arrives today! Converting my students` musings (example: "What put in question is not understood only from it") into meaningful English for an upcoming speech contest and, oh so happily, rowing again! Wednesday, July 16, 2008. Stopping for a seaside Lawson's break on our way there. A scary and strange float. Yo...

Sunday, February 24, 2008. Last weekend I went to Yokote's kamakura festival, for which a few parts of the town are filled with igloo-like snow huts. Friendly locals manned the huts (very homey inside! An inside look.surprise! You have to take off your shoes. A small shrine kamakura. We finally made it inside one! Amelie, jon, owen, cathy and edel. I was very disappointed when I discovered this snow sculpture was not a rabbit, as I had hoped from afar, but pikachu. My favorite picture from the festival!

Monday, December 10, 2007. Maybe I should backtrack a little. "What is a love hotel? I can't believe I'm leaving for Thailand next week - it is totally surreal to think that in a short time I will be lying on the beach IN THAILAND, going snorkeling, visiting temples in Bangkok etc. CRAZY! Friday, December 7, 2007. Baby, it's cold outside. Akita is getting ridiculous amounts of coverage in the nytimes. here. You can compare with my own pics of the exact same spot (taken back over autumnal equinox). In oth...

Tuesday, September 16, 2008. This weekend was an annual Akita JET camping trip to Lake Tazawa, that I had a hand in organizing as a Room to Read fundraiser. Fun times! The new Honjo girls - Jez and Abby, and me! The blue blue waters of Lake Tazawa. One of the few places on the lake I had never visited before. Walking the riverside sakura path in Kakunodate. Amelie had the great idea for our uniform shirts to have riflery sugichi (the tree mascot of the Akita games national sports competition last year)!

Saturday, June 21, 2008. Fighto, fighto to-chu! A semi-candid shot of the ichinensei boys, there just to cheer for their sempais. Bowing to the other team to thank them for their friendly cheer. Super serious cheer guards. Purposeless hats on band members. Team bowing to us to thank us for cheering. The scoreboard - the game won me about $10 from the opposing school's ALT. And some random stuff from around school:. I worked on this giant sign with the art club a few times before I realized it said COOL (.

Wednesday, August 29, 2007. Once again, a ton of photos for you to enjoy, this time from my new cell phone and some of edel's as well. But first, a bit of a re-cap: Last week I had to give my welcome speech to the whole school, about 500 kids. I was suprisingly not nervous, and apparently it was so good (? B: I am fine thank you and you? A: I am fine, too." and also, "What is your hobby? The slang term for school cafeteria staff member in America is "lunch lady". Although this devolved into "chuuu! They ...

Wednesday, January 23, 2008. A year turns into two. I've been able to continue working my fundraising bones (muscles? Here is some proof (re: recent purchases) of my settling in for the long haul:. The headboard is made of bluuuuue velvet. My ultra-kawaii car accessories. Also here's a pic of my apt building and car, a typical evening scene for me, waiting outside with my skis to be picked up by a kind friend to go nightskiing. Which means cherry blossom. In the textbook, there are characters that contin...

Monday, July 30, 2007. The hotel is really nice, although a little heavy on the 80's all-gold decor. No orientation activities that afternoon so I explored the shinjuku area with a fellow NYC friend, we found a great little yakitori restaurant where we sat at the same table as a japanese couple, but for privacy they let down a bamboo screen between us - it was quite cozy! That was quite a cool site to see, with their boomboxes blasting lauryn hill. Saturday, July 14, 2007. Supa Gaijin Kids Show! So i'm m...
