I don't mean that's where I heard Prodigy. For the first time - that happened a decade before my first Coachella. What I mean is, it was in the middle of a tent in Indio, twenty miles east of Palm Springs, CA, where I discovered that live music created on computers can be more engaging than live music created on instruments.

In fact, the first time I heard "Pumped Up Kicks" I was a little bit insulted. I thought I was listening to a poor man's MGMT. Where was the depth? All that said, the song's loopy swagger was infectious and, before long, I wasn't changing the station when it came on in the car. But I still knew I'd hate the band. How could I not? It was paint-by-numbers Coachella.

Tuesday, May 1, 2012. So, the bright idea came up to run a half marathon. The thought had crossed my path before, but I’d missed a race cut-off date and ended up running my own 13.1 in my neighborhood to a throng of several. Well, a throng of none, really, unless you count my daughter who brought me a drink in the final half mile. Still, I did it. Even if I miscalculated and ran a mile too far. No matter! I could do it. It, Mr. Compression Pants. I mean, fly like an eagle. Or run like a gazelle.
