Australian contemporary art writing. Tuesday, May 17, 2011. EX de Medici's exhibition titled Need Head. Is a disturbing exhibition that left me frustrated with its ambiguity and opacity. It is currently on at Sydney's relocated Sullivan and Strumpf gallery in Zetland. The title of the exhibition Need Head. 9 Standard Adrian Model. 1915 Horizon Blue Infantry. France (Nick Fletcher Collection) WW1, 2010. Image Courtesy of Sullivan and Strumpf. Yet the title Need Head. Australia. Boarding Helmet. Cure for P...

Australian contemporary art writing. Sunday, September 12, 2010. Penny Coss - Light Works. Coss's walks through the bush are the inspiration for most of her abstract. Had a slightly more cautious palatte of colour and composition. The larger canvas, White Hot Slap. Convey more movement and enable more contrast of the tutti-frutti pastels with sombre shades. The overall effect of the fifteeen paintings on display was refreshing and sharp. Penny Coss's Light Works was a brilliant exhibition, an inn...Image...

Australian contemporary art writing. Saturday, October 15, 2011. Black and Blue, 2011 (30 x40cm). The combination of colours and texture in this exhibition is particularly beautiful. A stormy fusion of mauve, grey and prussian blue dominates. The paintings titled Black and Blue. Tandem (17.5 x 12.5). Dalrymple's work is exceedingly comfortable in the small to medium scale format. It is where she excels. Given a larger canvas, such as Tumbled Shapes. All images courtesy of the artist. Two Coats of Paint.

Australian contemporary art writing. Thursday, September 22, 2011. Deborah Kelly describes her collage series as her private, interior work. Indeed, this range of work contrasts significantly with her more recognised political, public art practise. Currently exhibiting at Sydney's Gallery Barry Keldoulis, Awfully Beastly. Is a delightful, humorous exploration of the popular nexus between images of nature and feminine representation. Developing this thematic further, the 2010 exhibition Tender Cuts. The e...
