Remember that one teacher? | Running Through Fire
https://reaganpugh.wordpress.com/2014/03/03/remember-that-one-teacher
Remember that one teacher? Remember that one teacher? March 3, 2014. Sunrise through my classroom window in Mission, South Dakota. When I was getting my teacher certification, there was this school director who painted a picture of the lonely mornings of a teacher. He recounted days waking up and walking into an empty building not knowing if the things he planned would work. There is no morning so lonely as the morning of a teacher. Today with my buddy Hudson Baird of PelotonU. About those memorable teac...

Porch time | Running Through Fire
https://reaganpugh.wordpress.com/2012/08/14/porch-time
August 14, 2012. When I spoke up to complain about the heat, my friend was quick to offer that we were right where we needed to be out on a porch, away from the air conditioning. He told me with certainty that air conditioning killed community. He then talked about how houses don’t have front porches anymore and how garages slowly moved to the back with alley access. Who knows if these effects are really a result of artificially cold air – but it’s something to think about, isn’t it? When I lived in Sout...

At This Hour | Running Through Fire
https://reaganpugh.wordpress.com/2014/03/19/at-this-hour
March 19, 2014. I think it’s nice when the weather surprises you. My father is different. He prides himself in predicting the day’s climate; he believes he has some kind of internal barometer I think most men do. But I’m encouraged when I walk out onto my porch and something feels different, as it did this morning. The breeze is warmer than yesterday and heavy with moisture. I walk across the street to the coffee shop, already in his tomorrow. What did I feel that cold day weeks ago? When I was younger a...

I started this blog when I was serving in the Peace Corps in Ukraine, and have continued posting occasional thoughts since I returned to America. The words expressed here (particularly during my service) do not reflect the official positions of the US Government, US Peace Corps, or Peace Corps staff or volunteers. They may not even reflect my own. :). Monthly Archives: April 2013. April 28, 2013. And just like that…. April 15, 2013. For Lauren, Mike, and Heather. And You. The joke’s on me. On I Like Snow.

Howling at the Moon | Running Through Fire
https://reaganpugh.wordpress.com/2014/05/06/howling-at-the-moon
Howling at the Moon. May 6, 2014. With the screen door open and think about being President of the United States and fall asleep on the couch. I’ve always liked falling asleep on the couch. Because you wake up earlier. Most mornings, I’d wake because of birdsong or the sun peaking over the trees or the guy with the cats next door was loud. But some days, especially in the height of summer, there would be a splash or a scream that rattled the silence. I like to wake up early. From → Thoughts. You are comm...

(non)sensical awesomnimity: Thanksgiving: American, Ukrained Styled
http://nonsensicalawesomnimity.blogspot.com/2012/11/thanksgiving-american-ukrained-styled.html
Oh The Places You Will Go! My Little Big Push. Monday, November 26, 2012. Thanksgiving: American, Ukrained Styled. Yeah, I suck. I string you along and get your hopes up with a string of posts where I update from memory, only to disappear again without a peep. Sorry about that. I'd say that it won't happen again, but let's be honest: it will. We'll say it is in my blogging nature. Jump to Friday night when I am walking to Josh's house from the bus stop with other PCVs and I get a phone call. Subscribe to...
