Are You Sirius?: March 2012
http://ru-sirius.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html
Thursday, March 22, 2012. Discovery Of A New World. The only thing we have from any of this data is speculation. Possible cases which we have determined by different solar environment conditions. And because we've never traveled to another solar system or even planet for that matter, we cannot say for certain anything. So why do scientists get so excited over things like this? Weapons of Mass Destruction? Remember your history classes where you learned of the bombing of Hiroshima? Well think about it lik...

First Light: Kind of Nifty
http://celestialcheese.blogspot.com/2012/03/kind-of-nifty.html
A journey through the cosmos. Thursday, March 15, 2012. From the cover of Scientific American March 14, 1874. Darn I'm a day late.). Cute, but I don't think the design would have worked. You can either zoom in or click to download the image. I did, however, include a virus. (I'm just kidding. I shouldn't joke about that.should I? First Light: Little Bang, Big Boom!
http://celestialcheese.blogspot.com/2012/02/little-bang-big-boom.html
A journey through the cosmos. Tuesday, February 28, 2012. Little Bang, Big Boom! During the first half of the twentieth century, two theories of our cosmic origin were gaining popularity among scientists. The first theory, originally proposed by Fred Hoyle, was that of a steady state universe: one that had always existed and would forever exist, unchanged. The other theory was first proposed by Georges. Suggested that the universe was born as the result of a singular, highly e. The Cosmic Microwave Backg...

First Light: Here we go...
http://celestialcheese.blogspot.com/2012/01/here-we-go.html
A journey through the cosmos. Sunday, January 29, 2012. Let's talk about the speed of light. I'm serious. I know this may seem remedial and basic, but our perception of the universe is entirely dependent on this seemingly simple concept. The following paragraph is paraphrased from our book, so if you read chapter 3, feel free to skip ahead). A measure of time. Don't be fooled. 1 ly = 9,460,730,472,580.8 km. 5,878,625,373,183.6 mi. 63,241.1 AU. By using (wait for it) the 200" Hale telescope, Allan Sandage...

Are You Sirius?: Luna
http://ru-sirius.blogspot.com/2012/03/luna.html
Tuesday, March 20, 2012. This here is NASA's Astronomy Picture of the Day from March 20, 2012. It's a short video demonstrating the evolution of the moon. One thing that I really like about this is the fact that it shows how a rocky body without an atmosphere evolves over time as it sweeps out it's orbit. Another thought that this video provokes is what if the Earth's atmosphere didn't protect us from meteorites? Also, what would happen to the night sky? Could we do anything? View my complete profile.

Are You Sirius?: The Impossible Scale
http://ru-sirius.blogspot.com/2012/03/impossible-scale.html
Thursday, March 22, 2012. Through a fairly simple flash program you can actually cycle through vast sizes and learn of different things which measure in at that size. (That was a little bit confusing, but I think I got the message across.). Give that a thought. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Are You Sirius?: January 2012

Monday, January 23, 2012. The Birth of a Meme. A perfect example of this is Ancient Aliens. A television series intended to present theories regarding our very distant ancestry interacting with aliens. When I first heard about it, I thought it was just a two-part documentary explaining some newly uncovered facts about ancient civilizations. I'll admit - I was very intrigued by this. I mean, what if thousands of years ago alien civilizations visited Earth, maybe even frequently? The show's primary speaker:.

Are You Sirius?: The Sun's Fury
http://ru-sirius.blogspot.com/2012/03/suns-fury.html
Wednesday, March 21, 2012. Thanks to the Earth's atmosphere, we weren't really effected by the Sun's recent solar storm. On March 14, 2012 the Sun had one of the worst gatherings of sun spots in years. Not much to say to this, I just think it's a cool picture! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
