He rigorously trained his three sons and in 1852 they joined Jonas in partnership. The company remained as Chickering and Sons until 1908 when it merged with Knabe to form the American Piano Company. Franz Liszt also owned a Chickering (which apparently he could not destroy) as did Edvard Grieg.
