Early winter storm in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The warnings started on Friday: Heavy snowfall, 10 15 cm of snow expected. After Friday’s freezing rain warnings, it would be best to listen to the forecasters. The snow was light, and not nearly as deep as the warnings forebode. But icy! Mustn’t forget about Friday’s freezing rain. Push the shovel one direction, but found yourself going the opposite instead. Watch that first step, especially! You may also like. Art in the Park 2016.

Art in the Park 2016. 15th Annual Caswell Art Festival. Back in April, I got a call from my friend, Lois. Have you thought of entering Art in the Park this year? She asked. You really should have some of your pictures there! Lois works as an artist in Saskatoon, using the studio name Lupins. She’s known for her watercolours and other paintings, but recently has been crafting jewellery from artboard and paints. Really cool stuff. And she’ll have it at Art in the Park. You may also like.

As long as I remember, these towering sentinels have stood watch over the town. At bedtime, I would gaze into the darkness to find reassurance in those patient silhouettes. Beneath them, the industry that gave the town its life and its livelihood banged and thumped and hummed hypnotically. Embraced in that lullaby, secure in the shadows of those dark sentinels, I could drift off to sleep. But the sentinels are still there, resolutely standing their ground. You may also like. Hidden in the back lanes of downtown Trail, British Columbia, dozens of colourful bicycles ride a whimsical tour. You should take a walk down there, says Bruce, pointing to the lane in back of the old Arlington Hotel, a popular watering hole where a group of us had just wrapped up lunch over beer. As I reach the entrance to the lane, I spy a bike tied along the guy wires of a telephone pole, then a line of bikes overhead, pinned to the building wall. Further down, more bikes. The Bike Alley , as it’s cal...

Ghosts - Darrell NoakesDarrell Noakes

September 12, 2014. What if you could go back in time? What if, one day, when you were a grown-up, you went back to your old home and climbed the ladder into your parents’ attic? And, way in back, in a dim corner, barely illuminated by the flashlight in your hand, there was a box, a trunk, a large, dusty wooden trunk, with a lock that used a skeleton key? Still, you want to know what is in the trunk. Because you know it contains memories. Please follow and like us:. Posted in Personal Projects.

Water under the bridge - Darrell NoakesDarrell Noakes

Water under the bridge. September 7, 2014. Cottonwood Falls Park, Nelson, BC. (Darrell Noakes). Whenever I asked my parents where that place was, they always shrugged. 8220;You’re thinking of Gyro Park,” my dad would say, referring to the park we would sometimes visit in Trail. 8220;It’s on the way to Sunningdale,” my mom would say. I always took that to mean that it was somewhere between Gyro Park and the Sunningdale subdivision, but no such place exists. Beaver Falls, perhaps? 8220;You mean Gyro Park?

Winner: Gold Saskatchewan Article. September 26, 2014. It’s too bad we couldn’t be at the Western Magazine Awards gala in Vancouver this evening. I had been to two awards banquets previously. Each was a marvellous affair, an opportunity to socialize with some of Western Canada’s excellent and dedicated writers, photographers, editors, art directors and others who contribute to the success of publishing. The GOLD Saskatchewan Article award has been won by Darrell Noakes of Westworld Saskatchewan fame!
