July 29, 2015. Another of the excellent photos sent to me by Bob Gosnell shows two PT boats of Squadron (Ron) 5 being refueled at sea by a PT tender. The PT 107 is on the left while the boat number of the other PT is partially obscured by a sailor. Just pronouncing the name “Maddalena” continues to stir excitement and wonder about my father who, at the age of 19, helped to support a PT squadron that was in the thick of the action in the Mediterranean theater of war. Many of our generation may be more familiar with his famous daughter–Elizabeth Montgomery–who was the star of the hit TV series, Bewitched, which aired in the 1960s.
