Work week in review 10/08/15 14/08/15 – Digital by Default. Blooming hell that was another crazy week in the usually pretty sedate world of digital government. After the surprise resignation of Mike Bracken last week this week saw Tom, Russell, Ben and Leisa following suit. I’ve written a little bit of a thank-you to those four over on the work blog so won’t repeat that []. Original source – Digital by Default. Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window). More) Reflections on #UKGC15 – We Love Local Government – Blog. This is a late post over the past week the attendees of UK Gov Camp ’15 have been posting their thoughts and reflections. Glen did his last week. He’s more ‘on it’ than me). This is traditional; part of the joy of a govcamp is everyone talking their time to summarise their version of the event. Glen has provided a decent summary of a govcamp. Now onto some reflections:. There was some really good input from other campers about what they are ...

Coming home is strange: it feels like leaving – Ben Proctor. So my business cards arrived today. That makes it official. I am now properly the MD of the likeaword consultancy. Last time I did this sort of thing I learned a lot (and wrote a series of blog posts about what I had learned) In 2008 I concluded that what organisations needed was help to Continue reading Coming home is strange: it feels like leaving. Digital Engagement in Government. A year on GOV.UK. I’ve guest-blogged over on the Government Digital Service site about HMRC’s first year on GOV.UK. I’m currently the featured post on their main blog, which is very kind of the Aviation House crew. I won’t reiterate what I said there, instead I’ll add three extra details I didn’t have space for. 1 We decided which pages would form our “before and after” comparison over a year ago. These objectives were set in March 2013, which was before we knew exactly ...

Digital Engagement in Government. It was twenty years ago today…. You always remember your first time. Mine was shortly after I’d started at University. Twenty… But definitely. Twenty years ago, towards the end of 1993. I can’t say it was particularly good. I still had so much to learn. But I knew nothing would ever be quite the same again. The first time I published something on the internet. As I recall it was a personal page on my University’s site. Around the same time, the web became part of my work.

Digital Engagement in Government. Interview with PR Week on the future of PR. I’m speaking at the London PR Summit. On 29 April 2014, as a member of the AMEC’s Social Media measurement. As part of this PR Week. Asked me to give a brief interview (via written questions). I’m quoted three times on p63 of the latest issue. They’ve probably used the best quotes from the interview but I thought I’d post the whole thing here. Q How has the PR and comms function evolved over the last years? RR: Think about the ...

Public Sector Bullying | The greatest WordPress.com site in all the land!

The greatest WordPress.com site in all the land! Endemic bullying in Queensland Health. In this shocking case a nurse who was a victim of bullying was told to “let it go” and to find a new job! As is often the case an organisation that claims to have a “zero tolerance” approach to bullying actually has considerable tolerance, and once again the victim is the one who has to find a new job. Why is it that bullying seems so prevalent in health care and public sector organisations? Actually it sounds like th...
