Creatures of the night. June 11, 2015. Whoever said you shouldn’t go out at night obviously hasn’t been to Pulau Hantu! While there are many exciting encounters to be had in the daytime, the night is certainly when things get really interesting. Last week, Hantu Blog volunteer Susan Stephanie paid the creatures at Pulau Hantu a visit after sunset and was very lucky to have a shark bump into her camera! It was a shrimp fest on Sunday! Not the barbecue kind, but the transparent kind! Here are two perched on a hydroid! Another transparent shrimp crawling about on the sediment. See what I mean by well-hidden! Look at those gills! Is a common nudibranch that can be encountered on our reefs. Is usually found feeding on hydroids.

June 30, 2015. The Hantu Blog has been bringing divers to our reefs for over a decade. Many of our divers return frequently to Pulau Hantu’s reefs because they continue to be awed and rewarded with new and unexpected finds! One such diver is Ann Tan, who took all the photos in this blog post in a single dive! Stick pipefish blend in with the sea bed by mimicking the appearance of whip corals. They feed on plankton that drifts by in the current. Left) Whip goby on gorgonian coral (right). You can use thes...

Friday, August 9, 2013. Driftnet traps sharks, horseshoe crabs, stingrays on Pulau Semakau (9 Aug 2013). Sadly, but not surprisingly, we came across a driftnet during our National Day visit to Pulau Semakau. In the short portion of the net that I surveyed, I saw 14 horseshoe crabs that were still alive and struggling and seemed freshly entangled in the net. Including two pairs of male and female. They all looked like Coastal horseshoe crabs. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Mega Marine Survey of Singapore.

Project Driftnet Singapore: 100m abandoned driftnet at Pulau Hantu (3 May 2014)
http://projectdriftnet.blogspot.com/2014/05/100m-abandoned-driftnet-at-pulau-hantu.html
Saturday, May 3, 2014. 100m abandoned driftnet at Pulau Hantu (3 May 2014). A long abandoned driftnet in the middle of the swimming lagoon at Pulau Hantu was spotted two weeks ago by Debby, Pei Yan and other Hantu Bloggers. Who were conducting a guided walk at the time. More about this on Pei Yan's blog. Today, we removed the net. On this trip, we had a team of experienced people to quickly and safely deal with the mono filament net, which we estimate to be about 100m long with a mesh size of 8-10cm.
