The tenor bell is inscribed "This peal of bells was cast for John Powell Powell of Quex House, Isle of Thanet, by Thos. Mears of Whitechapel, London, for the amusement of himself and his friends". A truly secular peal! The total cost was 824. This included not only casting the bells, but making the frame, completing the installation in the tower and providing all the ropes and fittings.

John Powell Powell was an early member of the Royal Yacht Club (later the Royal Yacht Squadron) at Cowes in the Isle of Wight which he joined in 1820. John Powell & Stedman Triples. The Quex Park Society of Change Ringers. The Powell Cotton Museum. Welcome to The Waterloo Tower website. The Waterloo Tower is a bell tower containing 12 bells (tenor 15 cwt) hung for change ringing. The tower is built of red brick and is c. 66 ft high. On top of the tower is a white painted cast iron spire which rises a further 65 ft.
