If you would like to know…. January 14, 2009 at 4:29 am. Ok So because I have not been exactly on the ball, I am going to work with the past. I have a backlog of things to share and I am going to start with Christmas leftovers. I decided this year to go all out. I made something fancy, Seitan Roulade stuffed with Mushroom Chestnut dressing. I combined 3 different recipes that I gathered from. What the Hell Does a Vegan Eat Anyway? The result was FANTASTIC! To make the roulade, I took my seitan quarters a...

Lost in the Supermarket: September 2010
http://inthesupermarket.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
Lost in the Supermarket. For the next few weeks, I suggest you eat a lot of tomatoes. It will be months and months before they are worth eating again. Sliced with a pinch of salt. Bacon, arugula, tomato quiche. Barely roasted cherry tomatoes. Corn chips and fresh salsa. Summer bounty handpies (green city market). Or can some tomato sauce right now and open it in January when you've had it with roasted root vegetables. We drank too much French wine and beer. Ruhlman's pate a choux ratio. Dark chocolate me...

Lost in the Supermarket: Remembering Bastille Day
http://inthesupermarket.blogspot.com/2010/09/remembering-bastille-day.html
Lost in the Supermarket. An impromptu barbecue or game night can be a great time, but a real party with decorations, food and drinks to match the occasion can be ridiculous and awesome. In planning Kris' Bastille Day birthday party, I enlisted the help of some kiddos I know to make French flags for a garland and to hang all over the apartment (as well as on the building's door to direct friends to our new place). We drank too much French wine and beer. Ruhlman's pate a choux ratio. Safe and Fresh Seafood.

Lost in the Supermarket: get on the good foot
http://inthesupermarket.blogspot.com/2010/01/get-on-good-foot.html
Lost in the Supermarket. Get on the good foot. What kind of nightmare kitchen battle scars do you have? Well, I wasnt cooking but I was in the kitchen. We were going to have pasties for lunch, and the maid had just taken them out of the oven. I was on my way to get some paper napkins and my arm met the roasting dish in which the pasties were so I got burnt. The burn was little but looked awful, some kinda a chorizo, a pork sausage. Anyway now its ok. January 6, 2010 at 7:47 AM. Isaacson and Stein Fish Co.

A Pinch of Reasoning: June 2010
http://pinchofreasoning.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html
Wednesday, June 23, 2010. Angel Food Cheese, Garlic Rings and Tomato Mountains. My dear friend Rachel was working the Custer Street Fair. In Evanston the other day. Rachel does the farmer's markets all over the Chicago metro area, selling Tomato Mountain Farm. Organic products. Unfortunately, Evanston isn't her territory. So I walked down to see her at the booth. The Tomato Mountain booth was located in the "Eco-Village," sponsored by Whole Foods. Suddenly, there was a fanfare and everyone stepped aside ...

Lost in the Supermarket: going pro
http://inthesupermarket.blogspot.com/2010/05/going-pro.html
Lost in the Supermarket. I keep planning to update this lonely little blog. A post on getting kids to eat their vegetables. A response to Michael Ruhlman's Why I Cook. I am finally cooking and getting paid for it. Full-time. I'm planning to unpack my new apartment, get settled into my new work schedule, and maybe treat myself to a massage and a bottle or two of red wine. After that, I'll write more. Lost in the Supermarket: Another Sunny Day
http://inthesupermarket.blogspot.com/2010/07/another-sunny-day.html
Lost in the Supermarket. With good friends in town, I'd rather wait an hour at Kuma's Corner. Than slave away at the grill. Waited only. An hour because we got there at 11:30 (when they open). Arrive early, kids. Slayer: pile of fries topped with 1/2 lb. burger, chili, cherry peppers, andouille, onions, jack cheese, and anger. $13. If you want to eat the best croissant in Chicago, go to Floriole. I tried to go to Kumas, and Im not that particular about loud music, but Ill be damned if I was going to try ...
