Our not quite unschool journey. Monthly Archives: July 2011. Not Quite Unschool “Curriculum” – Math. July 27, 2011. Our journey thus far has taken us through a few math programs. Coming from Montessori we decided to start with Shiller Math. It is a Montessori based spiral curriculum that includes manipulatives. We enjoyed it, but I found some of it too easy and some too hard and because it spirals we needed to cover everything. So I moved on to Math U See. Bouncy Boy is also very into board games right n...

Our not quite unschool journey. Not quite unschool “curriculum” – Language Arts →. July 18, 2011. So fast-forward a few years and I have babies now! Do we do Montessori at home? Jump on the Classical bandwagon or what? So, we took a break – deschooled a bit. He watched a lot of tv and played on PBSkids.com and I started reading about homeschool philosophy. I read a lot online, enough to know that the hard-core academic and core type curricula need not apply here! No TWTM for us. And hers is a forward thi...

Per-Hops, Per-Hops Not! April 22, 2013. I always like a stout with some Irish food, they just go hand in hand, but in a pinch, potato skins will do.🙂. Price $9.00 a six pack. This one receives an official 7 outa 10. April 22, 2013. This would be good on a super hot day, but there are many more light and refreshing beers out there. I have no idea about the cost. It seems to be a pale lager. The official score is 4 outa 10. I will add more items as I go and I hope you guys have suggestions for items.

Tuesday, October 25, 2011. We are almost finished studying the Middle Ages using Story of the World. A history curriculum our whole family is enjoying. History is told in a narrative format, and the Activity Book. Includes map work and fun activities that even the little kids love. We try to do at least one of the activities for each chapter. History is probably the most fun subject at our house! We started with a cherry bark boil to relieve coughs:. The boys swallowed spiders to "rejuvenate the body":.

http://happyhomeschoolhippies.blogspot.com/2011/09/what-to-virtual-schoolers-do-when.html
Friday, September 23, 2011. What to virtual schoolers do when the internet breaks? Well, first we run around in circles in a complete panic because we can't remember where people gained knowledge before google. Then mama remembers that time before the internet existed. You know, when dinosaurs roamed the earth. She feels all nostalgic and pulls out BOOKS. Of course, some of us can't remember that time, so they start an art project making themselves a laptop. Well, one of us does. What to virtual schooler...

Monday, November 28, 2011. On Talking To Kids About Diversity. I'm a dyed in the wool unschooler, so I rarely buy homeschool-curriculum-type books for my kids. A while ago, I picked up a geography reference that looked fun. To my utter horror, while flipping through it yesterday, I found the following sentence: "Race is a distinction based upon biological characteristics common to a population. The eight main races are.". ARGH! The whole book's getting trashed because if it can't get the fact that " race.
