HIKE #19: Sobrante Ridge Regional Park, El Sobrante. THE START OF today’s hike felt different, as we are now traveling mostly east, rather than north, to begin our hikes. And we are actually hike SOUTH! This rather short hike would be a lovely get-away hike for local residents, but we didn’t feel it was particularly spectacular. Perhaps the gray clouds and impending rain had something to do with that! Carquinez Strait SOBRANTE RIDGE. Kennedy Grove to Tilden: next. Looking south to Tilden.

Hike #10: Jack London State Park. EVERY HIKE has its adventures, and this one’s problems started before we even began walking. The gates to the park were locked at 9:00am (even though the guidebook said the park opened at 8am). The rangers would not let us park anywhere outside the gates. Then Anne’s car died. And then we lost the trail in the far reaches of the park, due to downed trees and exuberant spring growth. It was an interesting day. More pictures coming soon. Mt Burdell JACK LONDON STATE PARK.

Hike #11: Annadel State Park. AFTER what seemed like weeks of rain, we finally had a sunny day for this hike. Two of our party started from the southern end and mountain-biked the trail. The other three hiked from Spring Lake Regional Park south toward the Sonoma Valley. All had adventures to tell about wild turkeys, snakes and rough, cobbled trails.
