The Heaphy Tracker: So that's it for Winter then?
http://heaphytracker.blogspot.com/2011/06/so-thats-it-for-winter-then.html
Tuesday, 21 June 2011. So that's it for Winter then? Now that we're over the shortest day hump, nightriding should become less of an issue as an extra two minutes of daylight will shine every day on those busting themselves riding through the Heaphy without stopping. Some have done it, more have failed and ended up breaking the rules. Thankfully, now that the long evenings have returned, riders are more likely to be breaking pool balls when the sun sets on Karamea. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

The Heaphy Tracker: The Gunner Return
http://heaphytracker.blogspot.com/2011/07/gunner-return.html
Sunday, 17 July 2011. After 10 days of rain, a thunder storm that went on for about a week and hailstones like baby golfballs, now was the time to check the Heaphy track's condition at it's winter worst. I rented a bike from Outdoor Adventures in Karamea and planned a return day trip to the Lewis Hut and arriving at Crayfish point for the high tide. Onwards anyway, more dragging of said bike through creeks and initial patches of mud. Plenty of crap along the way to slow you down; drains blown out, ro...

The Heaphy Tracker: Year One Verdict - Harmony on the Heaphy
http://heaphytracker.blogspot.com/2011/09/year-one-verdict-harmony-on-heaphy.html
Thursday, 29 September 2011. Year One Verdict - Harmony on the Heaphy. Phase one of a three year trial draws to a close as mountain bikes are no longer permitted on the Heaphy Track. While the trampers have the Heaphy all to themselves, the bikers have until next May to plan their next Kahurangi adventure. The policy makers will sift through the statistics gleaned from the five month trial and determine the success and impact of close to 2000 riders on the great walk. The Heaphy Tracker: Mud Slinging
http://heaphytracker.blogspot.com/2011/07/mud-slinging.html
Monday, 4 July 2011. With two months of Heaphy Hut track counter and DOC booking. Data available, a profile has begun to emerge of the typical Heaphy rider. From an estimated 700 riders in May and 400 in June, 92% were New Zealanders, 64% of whom were men. The majority were in the 36 and 66 age category which really points to kiwi elder being more likely to stay overnight than kiwi younger. The figures are largely based on beds booked so there is no record for day-trippers. That the track was not showing...

http://theflyfishingfamily.blogspot.com/2014/12/moments-in-time-and-friends.html
Fly Fishing and Traveling - Travelogue about the adventures of The Fly Fishing Family - Ines, Florian and Tobias. Monday, December 29, 2014. Moments in Time and Friends. Before I continue with that 'too good to be true' story: the lodge was closed due to personal reasons by the owners’ just weeks after we were there early 2013. Sad for many many satisfied guests. After the beach I passed the the former accommodation and appreciated restaurant Riverstone,. Too bad that I had to deny the friendly offer to ...

To my delight as this was the first fish caught and landed on the Orvis Helios 2, 9’, 5# that traveled temporary with me for a thorough test - thanks to orvis.de. A special topic as the police announced to enforce a zero tolerance speeding policy during the holiday season. So...

The Heaphy Tracker: Crayfish Point
http://heaphytracker.blogspot.com/2011/07/crayfish-point.html
Thursday, 28 July 2011. Prepared for the Heaphy Track? The Heaphy Track boasts the wild expanses of the western beaches but there are narrow passes along those routes where one should be respectful, observant and fleet of foot. The Crayfish Beds come to mind. Safety wasn't far away. Two steps in fact. The wave washed up to where my bike lay but was nowhere near the impact I had imagined. Further up the track, sea foam was splattered a good seven feet up the bluff face. Thankfully, I misse...Karamea Place...
