Hills, Waves & Wheels: The Small Isles - A taste of Rum

http://runswithaxes.blogspot.com/2015/07/the-small-isles-taste-of-rum.html

Hills, Waves and Wheels. Wednesday, 29 July 2015. The Small Isles - A taste of Rum. Looking across to the Cuillin, the eastern-most skerries of Sanday in the foreground, Rum some 3km directly across the sound though our easterly heading lengthened the crossing to 5km which we covered quickly in the calm conditions. The shadows lengthen in Glen Guirdil beneath Bloodstone Hill, named I believe for the semi-precious stone found on the beach beneath. Tim experimenting with a new camera. 4 August 2015 at 11:22.

Hills, Waves & Wheels: December 2014

http://runswithaxes.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

Hills, Waves and Wheels. Sunday, 28 December 2014. Hidden on High Street. With the snow line down to 500m, an unusual lack of wind over the summits and a fine forecast for the following day, I was keen to see if it would be worth returning with the skis. A rare moment of clarity, looking back on Riggindale and the broken crags of Harter Fell to the right. And across to Nan Bield Pass - the stone shelter clearly visible in the coll. Looking toward the shapely summit of Ill Bell, Yoke to its left, before h...

Hills, Waves & Wheels: July 2014

http://runswithaxes.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html

Hills, Waves and Wheels. Friday, 25 July 2014. Sunset from the fells. Looking west from Fairfield as the sun sets over the Derwent Fells. Gable the prominent summit in the far left of the frame. Links to this post. Thursday, 24 July 2014. This was one of those routes I'd been meaning to ride for some time. I'd been up and over Skiddaw on the bike before but a different descent looked appealing though it would mean a second climb and a longer route to complete following the main affair. Hills, Waves & Wheels: A duff forecast for the fells

http://runswithaxes.blogspot.com/2015/08/a-duff-forecast-for-fells.html

Hills, Waves and Wheels. Tuesday, 4 August 2015. A duff forecast for the fells. August is a month I associate with rain. Rain and midges. Starting with that as my premise for a day in the fells or afloat, is perhaps the best means of ensuring motivation remains until the typical improvement seen at some point in September before the autumn gales. Yet the mountain forecasts called for clearing skies and warm sunshine - no less than 17. Looking back into the fells from the head of the valley and the first ...

Hills, Waves & Wheels: Gripes and grikes

http://runswithaxes.blogspot.com/2015/05/gripes-and-grikes.html

Hills, Waves and Wheels. Monday, 11 May 2015. Having griped so recently about the way in which some paths in upland areas are being paved* - I did at least manage a rueful smile after a near mishap on a rather different sort of pavement while running over Ingleborough the other day. Limestone pavement that is - the deep irregular grikes requiring real concentration to pass across at any kind of pace. Looking across to Pen-y-ghent from the steep climb above Gaping Gill. Wild Places and Everything in Them: March 2012

http://wildplacesandeverythinginthem.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html

Wild Places and Everything in Them. Sea mountain beach bog sky rock wood. Tuesday, 13 March 2012. Back to Bardesy March 2012. I've been to Bardsey again this weekend with paddling pals and we left (after having a cappuccino and cake at beach cafe) from Porth Oer on the west side of the Lleyn Penninsula, Wales. Porth Oer is known for it's Whistling Sands as when you walk on the dry sand it squeaks under your feet. My Steed - ready and waiting. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). The eye of the beholder. Wild Places and Everything in Them: Ethereal Estuaries

http://wildplacesandeverythinginthem.blogspot.com/2012/05/ethereal-estuaries.html

Wild Places and Everything in Them. Sea mountain beach bog sky rock wood. Monday, 7 May 2012. Briney Pickled Ancient Wood. I sat down for a cuppatea this morning after a bike ride and my daughter was watching ' Swallows and Amazons' on the tele. It reminded me of the lost wonderful hours I spent as a kid messing around in the Fertha Estuary mud flats and tide discovering hidden beaches and islands, looking for crabs and eels in rockpools and rowing around in our little wooden boat 'The Kestrel'. http://wildplacesandeverythinginthem.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html

Wild Places and Everything in Them. Sea mountain beach bog sky rock wood. Thursday, 1 December 2011. Kerry on my mind. I'm off to Kerry to see family in just over a week so am pondering on my favourite places. Rosbeigh sand spit looking out to Dingle bay with Cromán Creek behind. The White Strand looking out to Lough Kay and Beginnish. Puffin Island and Puffin Sound looking to The Skelligs. I am Kerry like my mother before me,. And my mother's mother and her man. Now I sit on an office stool remembering,.

A quest for Adventure…. 8230;Tales of a 'wanabe' explorer. The Hag…. →. July 21, 2012. Mike and I took Friday (20th July) off work for a trip around Ardnamurchan Point from Kilchoan to Portuairk… Ardnamurchan is the most Westerly point on the British mainland. We found a little bay (NM437629) for a bite to eat away from the minor swell…. Shortly after, in the bay of An Acairseid, we came across a basking shark… here passing next to Mike’s bow…. We found another bay…. Where I left one trusty steed…. Inter...

Wild Places and Everything in Them. Sea mountain beach bog sky rock wood. Monday, 18 July 2011. Hen Caerwys: Archaeology Dig Last Day. The archaeology digs at Hen Caerwys Woods today finished and as both sites were covered up I felt a little sad to see all of what we uncovered closed up like a book to be opened to read again some other day. Butterfly Orchid I found at Hen Caerwys a couple of years ago. Saturday, 16 July 2011. Archaeological Dig at Caerwys. Section of trench with limestone rain sculpted p...

Wild Places and Everything in Them: June 2012

Wild Places and Everything in Them. Sea mountain beach bog sky rock wood. Thursday, 7 June 2012. A Sense of Wonder on 'His' a Turkish Gulet. The 'His' moored at Olive Island or Zetin Adasi. The water would lap at my little tiny window and beckon me to come for a swim and that I would do while all was sleepy and quite on the boat. Being under water is a calm feeling and it is not quiet as the water. Is full of sound especially a strange fizzy noise like tiny breaking glass. I knew most of our party of 10 ...

Runs With Blisters | sick of blisters; searching for happiness

Sick of blisters; searching for happiness. Adventures on the Elimination Diet. Posted on February 9, 2015. I’ve known since summer that my body no longer enjoys dairy. Eating dairy products gives me sinus headaches sometimes severe enough that I wonder if my face is attempting to explode off my head. Although I haven’t taken a food allergy test, I call it a food allergy because anti-histamine medication almost makes life worth living. Helps alleviate my symptoms. After 6 months of staying mostly.
